Position Summary
The Web & Visual Content Specialist will report directly to the Director of Communications and will be responsible for the maintenance, performance, and accessibility of the ATC’s websites and digital marketing campaigns. This person will be an integral member of the ATC’s Communications department, providing strategic support to supervise, develop, and enhance website content and digital marketing and fundraising efforts and ensure integration with strategic campaigns and outreach efforts that aim to effectively highlight the work of the Conservancy, and to engage and grow target audiences. This role will provide visual support through the creation of digital graphics and the management of the organization’s photographic resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Program, manage, and evaluate the ATC’s websites and digital marketing tools through content management software platforms.
- Oversee the overall functionality, efficiency, and quality of the ATC’s web experience, creating strategies to enhance user journey and interfaces, and improving overall navigation and engagement.
- Post, maintain, update, and audit website content in WordPress.
- Serve as main editor for the website, reviewing and editing all content to ensure it adheres to organization’s visual and writing style requirements and brand standards.
- Monitor, evaluate, and manage website performance, collaborating with the Communications team to identify and implement strategies to grow traffic.
- Troubleshoot web issues, such as bot attacks, web plug-in issues, subdomain creation, etc.
- Serve as lead project manager with external consultants and internal colleagues for future website redesign projects.
- Keep informed on changing trends and implement best practices for website SEO and UX.
- Design, build, and measure performance of email marketing and fundraising campaigns in Campaign Monitor.
- Collaborate with ATC program staff to understand needs and strategize ideas for featuring and organizing digital resources to enhance target audience engagement on the website.
- Create and design effective text-on-photo graphics and edit images to be used in web, email, social media content.
- Maintain ATC's photographic database, cataloging new photo assets and usage restrictions, conducting photo research, and servicing photo request needs.
- Collaborate with Communications team on social media campaigns and other marketing and fundraising efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned to help meet the goals and objectives of the department.
- At least 3 years of related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, graphic design, communications, or other related field preferred; or 3 years in digital communication, digital marketing, and/or web content management in lieu of bachelor’s degree.
- Proficiency in content management software platforms, especially WordPress.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience implementing SEO best practices and monitoring web analytics (GA4).
- Proficiency in email marketing platforms, especially Campaign Monitor.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience working in XML-based web applications and programming, XHTML programming, JavaScript, React, Jquery, and other web development languages & technologies, a plus.
- Proficiency in photography and/or video editing a plus (Adobe Photoshop/Premiere).
- Self-starter who thrives in a collaborate environment; demonstrated experience coordinating and organizing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Versatile and collaborative, able to work independently and collaboratively on organizational projects.
- Commitment to detail and vigilance about deadlines.
- Passion and interest in the environment, outdoor recreation, conservation, or a related field required. Familiarity with and/or affinity to the Appalachian Trail a plus
- Located in an Appalachian Trail state or in proximity to the Trail is a plus.
- Working on the computer and viewing screens for prolonged periods.
- Moderate proofreading requires adequate vision and focus.
- Frequently communicates with individuals by email, online chat, videoconference, or phone.
- Infrequent travel to attend in-person meetings and/or participate in Trail activities.
- Salary Range: ($50k - $55k)
