Job Summary:

This position is responsible for performing work associated with processing workers' compensation benefits for the following Special Fund programs: No Insurance, Bankrupt Self-Insured, Pre-1973 supportive care.


This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Reviews, analyzes, and proactively manages workers’ compensation claims to ensue legal and timely benefits; Analyzes and applies the following: Internal best practices standards, Occupation Disability Guidelines, Arizona Workers’ Compensation laws, rules and case law decisions.
  • Analyze, investigate, and complete compensability decisions on Medical Only Claims; Conducts claims investigations; Identifies claims with subrogation potential.
  • Review and timely authorize medical bills, as indicated; Timely authorizes compensation for Loss of Earnings Capacity and Fatality benefits.
  • Negotiates and settles claims; develop and maintain reserves and plan of action to manage the claim to resolution.
  • Provides high quality and timely customer service to internal and external customers; initiates and maintains professional customer relationships with claimants, employees, attorneys, and medical providers.

Knowledge in
  • Policies and procedures pertaining to Arizona workers’ compensation claims adjusting.
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Insurance, legal and medical terminology.
  • Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, Google Chrome.
  • Basic English.
  • Basic mathematics.

Selective Preference(s):

Ideal candidates will have:
  • 3-5 years’ experience with Medical Only claims.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Retirement:

You will be eligible to participate in the state employee health/disability insurance plan, and you are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). ASRS participation may begin immediately or upon your 27th week of employment. Contributions are matched by the employer.
