Job Description:There is one job opening that will be filled at either a Maintenance Worker, Operator I, or Operator II level depending on qualifications. This position splits duties between Water Treatment and Water Distribution. The City of Port Townsend strives to provide a quality reliable infrastructure looking toward a sustainable future. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Employee shall meet all requirements of group A and B of the Core Competencies, and the tasks described in these select competencies are considered part of the essential functions for Water Treatment/Distribution Maintenance Worker. Employee shall meet all requirements of group A, B, and C, and 5 of group D of the Core Competencies, and the tasks described in these select competencies are considered part of the essential functions for Water Treatment/Distribution Operator I. Employee shall meet all requirements of groups A, B, and C, 8 of group D, and 4 of group E of the Core Competencies, and the tasks described in these select competencies are considered part of the essential functions for Water Treatment/Distribution Operator II.Participates as a member of the Public Works team to operate and maintain the City's potable water treatment system in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory standardsConducts water quality samplingCollects, compiles, analyzes, and interprets water quality, source water, and operational data and produces reportsMaintains and calibrates pumps, analyzers, sensors, and other equipment associated with water treatment and monitoringOperates and troubleshoots Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)Performs routine maintenance of water treatment facility buildings, booster pump stations, reservoirs, telemetry, SCADA, mechanical and electrical equipmentAssists in the operation and maintenance of the golf course wellResponds to customer water quality concerns.Responds to after-hours emergencies.Troubleshoots water system problems and make repairsAssists with preventive maintenance program of equipment in coordination with the Fleet divisionMaintains water treatment grounds and facilities in a clean, safe, and efficient mannerPerforms repairs to mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems and equipmentAssists with maintenance and repairs of the Olympic Gravity Water SystemProvides support for other divisions and departments during emergenciesPatrols and inspects all parts of the municipal watershed, water sources, transmission facilities, and storage facilitiesMonitors all natural and human-caused processes that might influence source water qualityMonitors stream flows, reservoir levels, weather patterns, snowpack status, and pipeline flowsConducts tours of the water treatment facilityOther duties as assigned Participates as a member of the Public Works team to maintain the City's water distribution system including pumps, pipes, hydrant, meters, reservoirs, and valvesPerforms customer service for meter reading, leak repair, and installation of taps and metersPerforms small construction projects including pipe installation and replacementOperates heavy construction equipment including backhoe, front-end loader, dump trucks, vactor truck, etc., and operates hand tools such as cutoff saws, compactors, jackhammers, etc. as qualifiedTransports equipment with dump trucks and pickups with trailersPerforms minor repairs on equipment and reports the need for major repairsAssists other departments with underground utility workAssists with establishing and implementing appropriate safety programs for staff and equipment CORE COMPETENCIES: To show competency for these skills, the employee must have worked in an equivalent position for another agency or worked for the City for a minimum of one year demonstrating the skills for this position.
