Founded in 1993 and headquartered in McLean, VA, Solv is a small business that supports the mission of government clients by providing sustainable solutions based on sound engineering, science, economic, and management principles. Solv has an immediate need for a Water Resources Engineer to provide full-time support and project management for Water Resources Engineering planning/design review, environmental assessment, watershed planning and other environmental and resilience efforts of federal clients in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and other locations nationwide.
Candidates should have 5+ years of experience aligning with several of the following areas of expertise:
· Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one state;
· Experience in planning and/or design of Water Resources projects including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood elevation/profile determinations, sizing, and proportioning of dams and spillway systems, levees (dikes), and floodplain management including experience with the National Flood Insurance (NFIP) regulations OR experience in planning and/or design of irrigation projects.
· Familiarity with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental assessments (EAs) and environmental impact statements (EISs);
· Developing interdisciplinary watershed plans and planning reports;
· Technical expertise in one or more of the following laws or programs: NEPA, Clean Water Act (CWA); National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP); or other related laws;
· Providing technical advice and training for Water Resources Engineering, design, and/or planning;
· Understanding economic investigations and reports within environmental planning documents;
· Reviewing engineering assessments; assuring quality of technical reviews; and attention to detail of project deliverables; and
· Coordinating the planning or technical review of water supply, flood damage reduction, agricultural water supply, irrigation, and ecosystem restoration projects.
Ideal candidates will have experience integrating interdisciplinary considerations into environmental assessment documents, or water resource and conservation practice planning and policy documents. She/He will be familiar with environmental planning in accordance with federal laws, regulations and other federal agency-specific programmatic practices. She/He will have experience coordinating with interdisciplinary teams to accomplish technically and programmatically sound environmental assessment and planning documents, reviews, and reports. Experience with project management for federal government projects related to Water Resources Engineering/planning is a plus. Experience working with the Natural Resource Conservation Service, Bureau of Reclamation, or the Army Corps of Engineers is a plus. Familiarity with USACE or NRCS modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SITES, or WinDAM) is a plus.
Candidates must have a BS in Engineering (Civil, Agricultural, Biosystems, Biological, Environmental, or Structural preferably with an environmental concentration) from an ABET accredited university. An MS degree is preferred. All candidates must possess outstanding oral and written communications skills.
