GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, operates a potable WATER PLANT that monitors, produces and distributes drinking water in accordance with all local, state and federal regulatory criteria and all safety policies and procedures. Provides instruction and leadership to subordinate operators and maintenance personnel as required. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Water Plant Shift Supervisor.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Monitors and records readings of gauges and meters of water pump age, water and oil pressures, oil levels, chemical usage, temperature and air pressure, turbidity, pH, and other readings required for plant operation and make operations adjustments where necessary.
Maintains daily log book and accurate records of various aspects of plant operations as required.
Collects samples; performs sample analysis and documents results as required.
Adjusts chemical dosages, flows, distribution pressure, etc., as necessary and as indicated by tests.
Monitors water pressure, storage tank levels, clear well levels; makes adjustments as necessary.
Prepares all legal documents required by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
Inspects, cleans and lubricates operating equipment such as meters, valves, pumps, motors and other related plant machinery and equipment used in the production of safe drinking water.
Performs necessary and/or routine maintenance and assists in the extensive repair and maintenance of pumps, valves, bearings, motors, regulators, electronic recording devices and other types of plant equipment and machinery.
Maintains, troubleshoots and performs routine repairs to systems and equipment; prepares work orders for maintenance.
Participates in general plant maintenance, such as cleaning equipment, mopping floors, painting, and assisting in equipment or facility modifications; provides emergency maintenance as needed.
Inspect work in progress and at completion for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety.
Orders and inventories required chemicals, supplies and equipment parts. Ensures the proper storage and handling of chemicals. Refills chemicals used in laboratory and in feeding equipment.
Drains water off compressors.
Calibrates pH meter and fluoride meter.
Backwashes / cleans system components.
Enters all daily adjustments and activities into log book.
Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; assists with minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; assists mechanics with maintenance projects.
Prepares and/or reviews daily technical data and reports, charts, regulatory reports, logs, etc.
Inspects buildings, systems and equipment for proper condition and safety; takes corrective action as necessary.
Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet operational standards.
Assists in training new plant personnel.
Briefs operators at the beginning of subsequent shift.
Provides leadership and limited supervision of assigned operators and trainee personnel.
Receives and responds to customer inquiries, concerns and complaints regarding water quality and supply.
Operates a vehicle, backhoe, bobcat, hoists, and various other equipment, including a computer, calculator, pumps, lab equipment, blowers, chlorinators, mechanic's tools, various other hand and power tools, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors and employees, subordinates/co-workers, customers, City/County personnel, inspectors, sales representatives, other utilities, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs general housekeeping, building and grounds maintenance tasks as required.
Performs related duties as required.MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one year of responsible experience in the water system operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess Class C Water Treatment Plant Operators license. Must possess a valid state driver's license.Employment Type: Paraprofessional
