About the Role:
What You’ll Do:
- Perform visual inspections of water service for leaks.
- Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly.
- Properly change out Water Meters of varying sizes and brands.
- Properly change out Water Meter registers for AMI/AMR upgrade.
Water Meter Reading:
- Read Water Meters.
- Enter data collected in the field into a handheld computer.
- Assist on additional projects, as necessary.
Customer Communication:
- Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities
- Provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable,
- Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate,
- Other duties as assigned.
The base pay for this position is $16.00 per hour. Employees in this position are eligible for a production incentive in addition to their base pay that provides employees with a payment for each meter installed over a threshold.
About You:
- Education: Some high school education, must be 18 years of age or older
- Experience: No experience is necessary, employees will be trained. A valid driver's license is required
Nice to haves:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Experience: 1 or more years of experience in the direct exchange of Water Meters and registers of varying sizes.
Your Skills:
- Ability to multi-task, and work independently and as a team.
- Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling. Must be flexible in times of need, including extended nights and weekends.
- Adequate time management skills to finish daily meter reads promptly, figuring out an efficient way to read meters for that day.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with management and customers.
- Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers professionally.
- Excellent attention to detail for problem-solving and finding.
- Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordingly.
- Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Place a high value on safety, quality of work, and operational procedures.
- Basic knowledge of GIS systems and principles is required.
This role would not be a good fit if you:
- Do not enjoy working independently.
- Do not enjoy working in outdoor conditions.
- Do not enjoy walking long distances.
- Are not flexible and do not enjoy adapting to your current work schedule or routine.
- Do not have adequate planning and time management skills to finish a day’s work promptly.
Drug/Alcohol Testing:
- Drug/alcohol testing is required.
- Drug/alcohol testing is required per Non-Regulatory requirements for employees working with water, electricity, and meters.
- Drug/alcohol testing is required per Federal DOT regulations for employees working with gas meters.
