JOB SUMMARY:
The Wastewater Operator II will provide day-to-day support for the water treatment system(s) at remote locations in Alaska. The Wastewater Operator II be able to meet the licensing requirements as outlined in 18 AAC 74 by the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC). The Wastewater Operator II will be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment and associated facilities to ensure continuous operation. Wastewater Operator II will assist in validating compliance within the systems and provide professional recommendations after routine audits for system improvements. The Wastewater Operator II will be responsible for collecting samples and using the data to develop and conduct corrective measures to the treatment process. Personal initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Providing safe and healthy daily operation of the wastewater system
  • Performing routine maintenance and repairs on the system and associated buildings and facilities
  • Maintaining and submission of compliance records
  • Performing routine inspections and monitoring duties
  • Collects samples and performs standard tests to validate system operations
  • Records and documents system observations
  • Coordinates resource procurement with system owner
  • Performing housekeeping duties to keep the local waste management area organized and clean

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
Position has no supervisory responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Vocational training or previous experience within a similar position
  • Possess good housekeeping skills with attention to detail on to reduce personal exposure and potential spreading of contaminants
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly
  • Ability to act calmly under stress and strain
  • Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
  • Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Safe power and hand tool operation
  • Familiarity of proper lock-out-tag-out procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through both verbal and written communication
  • Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word and Excel

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School graduate plus two years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Driver's license
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or otherwise
  • Must be able to pass federal background check
  • Current and valid State of Alaska water treatment certification II or higher

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Generally indoor/outdoor environment; may be subject to changes in temperature and noise levels.
