Position Description

Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
We are seeking a safety focused Warehouser, who enjoys working at a remote location in the State of Washington. As a Warehouser, he/she will contribute to warehouse operations that strengthen and improve the reliable operation of Boundary Hydroelectric Project, located 100 miles north of Spokane, Washington.
The work requires practical knowledge of warehousing procedures and operations and safety rules and practices. The work requires the ability to do basic math calculations, recordkeeping, computer data entry and to operate a variety of equipment to perform tasks. Some positions may require specialized knowledge of equipment and supplies, such as automotive, electrical, and industrial parts. Guidelines exist in the form of materials/stock catalogs, department policies and procedures, safety policies, and procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements. This position reports to the Chief Warehouser.

Job Responsibilities

  • Receives, stores and issues a variety of equipment, materials, and supplies in a warehouse or storage area;
  • Assists in maintaining and updating computerized inventory control system;
  • Performs routine recordkeeping and related clerical duties;
  • Preparing forms for replenishing stock;
  • Under direction of a lead worker or supervisor, orders equipment, materials and supplies;
  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Keeps work area neat and orderly to maintain a safe working environment;
  • Ability to work as a team member in a diverse workforce;
  • Operates a variety of warehouse equipment and machinery including forklift, pallet jack, barrel, dolly, overhead crane, wire-coiling machines, truck scales, etc.;
  • Salvages used parts and materials; reclaims usable parts and stockpiles saleable or recyclable materials;
  • Ability to prioritize work, revise work plans to meet project deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities; and
  • Prepare and maintain records, timesheets, reports and related paperwork.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Education equivalent to provide the necessary skills to perform the essential functions of the job.
Experience: Requires a minimum of six months warehousing experience or related clerical experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Certification/License: Current Washington Driver's License.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:


  • Basic knowledge of or ability to learn warehousing practices and procedures and in maintaining an automated inventory control system;
  • Basic math skills, recordkeeping, computer data entry and use variety of parts and supplies catalogs;
  • Operate a variety of equipment related to warehousing operations; and
  • Familiarity with safety rules and practices and applicable laws.

Work Environment:
  • Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time;
  • Required to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • May be required to handle or work with materials containing toxic/hazardous substances; and
  • May be required to occasionally work outdoors in all types of weather.
