What you'll do as a Yard Dog Operator:
• Operate a "yard dog" tractor trailer combination with significant amount of backing trailers up to 53 feet while applying knowledge of all driving regulations.
• Maneuver trucks and trailers into loading and unloading position and assists in unloading. Chocking trailers as they are spotted for loading and unloading and pulling from doors.
• Safely operate yard dog to move trailers and report safety hazards and repairs to management.
• Couple and uncouple trailers
• Job includes working in warehouse on a forklift in addition to yard work. Other equipment this role may operate: forklift, basiloid, tugger, track-mobile and steel dock crane.
• Utilize a scanner to transfer units from storage to a shipment.
• Utilize track-mobile to move railcars for loading, opening and closing railcar doors and moving railcars outside when completed.
• Completes daily pre-shift inspection of yard truck and performs routine inspection of assigned equipment.
• Work with operations leaders to prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.
• Ability to rotate among jobs within department and know all aspects of warehouse processes.
• Maintain a clean work environment and follow all company policies and practices regarding safety and material handling.
• All other duties as assigned.

How You'll Create Possibilities

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must have at least one year of hands-on experience operating a yard dog/truck to move trailers and hitch/unhitch trailers on high traffic yard.
• Ability to be obtain mobile equipment operator certification (forklifts & tuggers); ability to maintain certification.
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required.
• Must have attention to detail and be able to work independently.
• Available to work weekends or extended hours as needed.
• You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
• You must be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
• Must pass a background check and drug screen.
• Must be able to successfully complete physical confirming satisfactory health for job and have the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation, including, but not limited to:
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., with potential heavy lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequently requires use of both hands: gripping and reaching
  • Must be able to access required areas pertaining to job including, but not limited to: trailers, railcars, machinery and other areas of the plant.
  • Must be capable of obtaining & maintaining Yard Dog & Fork Truck certifications/licenses.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Exposure to temperature fluctuations of summer & winter as determined by outside conditions.
  • Must wear all required PPE including steel toed shoes & safety glasses.
