Job Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for the receiving of incoming products and shipping outgoing products. In addition, this position is responsible for keeping the film raw material inventory in orderly condition, staging film for production and returning unused film into the warehouse. This is a detailed oriented position and requires reading and understanding of orders, packing list, shipping reports, quality checklist and BOL’s. Accurate labeling of incoming materials returned materials from production and labeling of outgoing shipments is an essential responsibility for this job. This position will prepare pallets for daily shipments and maintain an orderly warehouse.

Essential Job Functions

  • Material Organization: Safely store materials in designated storage areas, ensuring proper organization and easy accessibility. Maintain inventory records, monitor stock levels, and coordinate restocking activities to ensure a consistent supply of materials.
  • Material Distribution: Deliver materials to production areas in a timely and organized manner to support printing and finishing processes. Provide raw stock to presses. Review production schedules to determine required stock for each press. Operate motorized forklift to retrieve materials and transport. Ensure adequate quantities are available for each press. Return unused stock to storage.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in quality control by conducting periodic checks on materials for defects, ensuring that only high-quality materials are used in production.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, including restocking materials and updating inventory databases.
  • Receiving and Inspection: Receive incoming shipments, inspect materials for damage, verify the accuracy of deliveries against packing slips, and promptly report discrepancies.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines when handling materials and operating equipment and report any safety issues promptly.
  • Communication: Collaborate with team members, production staff, and supervisors to facilitate effective material flow and resolve any inventory-related issues.
  • Perform other duties as required or as requested by Supervisor or Manager.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to maintaining accuracy in material handling and documentation.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and maintaining inventory records.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and internet search engines)
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with various stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and practices in a manufacturing setting.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a shipping, logistics, or materials handling role is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with forklifts and other material handling equipment is a plus.
  • Forklift Certification a plus
  • Knowledge of safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and Walking: spend a significant portion of their workday on their feet, operating machinery, loading, and unloading materials, and moving around the production area.
  • Lifting and Carrying: may involve lifting and carrying materials and packages, often weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Repetitive Movements: involves repetitive movements, such as feeding materials into the machine, monitoring production, and adjusting as needed.
  • Visual Acuity for quality inspections.
  • Hearing: need to be able to hear and respond to alarms, equipment sounds, and instructions from co-workers or supervisors.
  • Safety Awareness: Safety is a critical concern in manufacturing environments. Operators must follow safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Stamina: This role may require operators to work extended hours or stand for long periods, so physical stamina is important.

Typical environment of manufacturing and production facilities. Exposure includes but is not limited to continuous noise, scent of materials, bright workstations, machinery with moving parts.
