Warehouse Manager

The Utah Department of Corrections is looking for motivated, hardworking individuals with these and other leadership attributes for an opportunity for promotion as a Warehouse Manager at the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison, UT.

Under the direction of support services leadership, incumbents in this position will manage central prison warehouse operations. Employee will be managing ordering, stocking and inventory of prison needed items. The Warehouse Manager will also be required to supervise subordinate employees.

This job is NOT public safety certified and does not require peace officer status or certification.

The Warehouse Manager will:

• Directly manage/supervise lower level warehouse personnel at a large prison facility. This includes hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
• Manage an effective CUCF prison warehouse. This includes effective managing, retrieving, receiving, inspecting, processing, storing, staging and delivery of warehouse goods. These activities occur at the mail and property building and while delivering or retrieving mail or property in all prison areas.
• Operate and train others to operate a pallet jack, dolly, non-CDL trucks/vans/vehicles and other warehouse equipment while performing work activities.
• Collaborate with leadership, subordinate personnel, purchasing staff, vendors, and other areas/agencies to ensure effective prison warehouse operations. This includes the responsibility to ensure operations follow safety regulations, laws, requirements and practices.
• Ensure proper maintenance of all warehouse equipment and areas.
• Manage warehouse areas/operations for maximum use and efficiency.
• Identify problems or potential problem areas and collaborates with stakeholders to implement solutions.
• Strict adherence to safety and security guidelines, policies and practices while working in and around a correctional institution environment.
• Oversee the completion of accurate reports, records and logs.
• Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position has the following:

• Experience supervising staff.

• Experience adhering to workplace safety standards and laws.

• Knowledge about general wahreouse operations and requirements.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Leadership qualities and ability.

• Experience with specific warehouse equipment (especially trucks, pallet jacks, dollies, other mail or property equipment)

• Experience with computer/office equipment and using software, including word processing, spreadsheets and UDC database programs.

Supplemental Information

• Although this position is intended to work Monday through Friday with holidays off, all correctional facilities operate 365 days per year and the work schedule may on an infrequent basis possibly include emergency weekend or holiday coverage. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week; overtime may be necessary.
• Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around and operating trucks/warehouse equipment and possibly coming in contact with hazardous drugs, chemicals or biohazard materials.
• Although correctional officers will be present in the secure areas of the prison to provide safety and security, there are some risks found in potentially dangerous correctional environments.
• The work requires moderate physical exertion such as standing or sitting for long periods of time, regularly operating warehouse equipment/trucks, walking, repeated lifting/pushing/pulling of heavy objects up to 50 pounds, and climbing, crouching, or crawling is also possible.
