JOB DESCRIPTION

WARD SECRETARY

General Purpose:

To provide clerical support to the Nursing Unit as instructed by the Nursing Coordinator.

Qualifications:

* Show ability to speak, write and understand English.

* High School graduate or equivalent.

* Must be at least 18 years of age.

* Ability to file.

* Positive telephone skills.

* Positive attitude towards the public, visitors and employees.

* Ability to read and write English.

* Positive attitude towards the elderly.

Essential Job Functions (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation):

A. Schedules doctor visits, lab work, x-rays, and clinic appointments as directed.

B. Makes transportation arrangements as required.

C. Thins charts as directed.

D. Prepares charts for admissions and discharges according to Medical Record procedures.

E. Files any information necessary in proper boxes, files.

F. Monitor medical supply and forms, inventory on wings.

G. Prepare both BM, behavior monitoring, toileting schedules, input and output, etc. sheets as directed.

H. Monitor frequency of doctor visits and notify Nursing Coordinator of late/missed visits.

I. Assist with staff schedules and staffing issues as requested.

J. All other duties as assigned.

A. Resident Rights: Maintain resident confidentiality. Treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect. Know and comply with residents' rights, promptly report all resident complaints, accidents and incidents to Nursing staff.

B. Safety and Sanitation: Understand and use Universal Precautions and follow established Infection Control, Hazardous Communication and other safety rules. Report violations of safety and sanitation to supervisor.

C. Staff Development Duties: Attend and participate in orientation, educational activities, staff meetings and required annual inservice training.

D. All Other Duties as Assigned.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.. Pushing, pulling, and occasionally working in high heat and humidity. Ability to read and write in English, ability to communicate with residents, residents' families, personnel and supply agencies. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions and ability to remain calm under stress. Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Experience:

• Medical terminology: 1 year (Preferred)
