.8 FTE with a every 4th Saturday rotation

The Walk In Clinic assistant will be responsible for helping to improve the quality of care by providing timely care and documenting accurately in the patient chart. Much of one’s time will be spent working directly with patients. The Walk In Clinic assistant will obtain accurate patient information, collect vital signs and swabs while providing exceptional customer service.

To be successful, a clinic assistant needs to be proactive and very organized. They must have intermediate medical knowledge and advanced computer skills. The Walk In Clinic assistant should also be personable and have strong communication skills to ensure that patients’ expectations and needs are met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working under the direction of the Walk In Clinician.

• Taking and recording patient vital signs in the electronic health record system

• Documenting accurate reason for visit and history of present illness

• Collecting swabs including nasopharyngeal swabs, throat swabs, and skin swabs

• Assisting the clinician with sterile and nonsterile procedures including suturing and casting

• Communicating with patients and clinicians professionally

• Utilizing appropriate methods to ensure timely communication with patients and internal departments

• Completing all administrative tasks timely and efficiently

• Advanced computer skills

• Preparing procedure and exam rooms for patient examinations

• Keeping exam room stocked with adequate medical supplies while managing inventory

• Maintaining confidentiality and privacy of the patients

• Strong organization, multitasking and time management skills

• Ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Good bedside manner and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

•All other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to document patient care as dictated by a clinician in a legible and clear manner, following all local, state, and federal guidelines for documentation.
  • Demonstrate an ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with governing HIPAA regulations.
  • Demonstrate organizational ability to maintain and coordinate multiple forms and paper documentation related to patient care.
  • Demonstrates positive verbal communication and listening skills with internal and external customers.
  • Coordinate services with other departments for follow-up based on patient’s needs.
  • Communicates with Clinic Supervisor and Clinic Director to keep them informed of developments that have an effect on the clinic and other support areas.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in performing additional responsibilities to contribute to the improvements in patient care and the functioning of the clinic and other support areas.
  • Assists with the updating of current and development of new procedures as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit, stand, or walk, while paying close attention to detail and continual use of equipment in the carrying out direct patient care and related activities.
  • Lift from waist to shoulder up to 25 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds rarely.
  • Carry up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Push and pull up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Bend the trunk up to 20 degrees or greater and twist occasionally for patient cares.
  • Squat and kneel occasionally. Reach to shoulder height occasionally, and above shoulder height rarely. Pinch and grip with various forces and use bimanual dexterity occasionally.
  • Use visual and auditory acuity frequently.
  • Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer.
  • Communicate via spoken, written or electronic word with patients and family, staff, pharmacies, third party payors and other outside agencies on a frequent basis.

Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing assistant program; or

• Graduate from an accredited EMT program

• Strong verbal and written skills

• Superior customer service skills

• A high level of professionalism
