Job Description:
The Vice President - Practice Controllerwill report directly to OneOncology's Chief Financial Officer. This is a fantastic, high-profile role for someone who enjoys making a difference. This individual will be one of the key accounting and finance leaders in the organization having direct, everyday interactions with the OneOncology C-Suite/Executive Team members as well as everyday interactions with our practice leaders. This individual will also interact daily with a broad, cross functional group of operational, clinical, financial and corporate teams. This individual oversees a large practice accounting organization consisting of more than 50 professionals including several Director level direct reports and will work hand in hand with the Corporate Controller and their team in driving the proper accounting across the practice platform.
The Vice President - Practice Controller is responsible for leading a large, dynamic accounting team through growth, change, acquisitions and integrations. This position is responsible for the majority of our partner practices' accounting and financial reporting functions, which includes working through accounting, operational and strategic opportunities and issues. The Vice President - Practice Controller is responsible for overseeing the month-end close process of our individual partner practice's accrual basis financial statements, management and continued build out of the practice accounting team, and relationship development and management with our partner practices.
Due to our large number of platform practices - all of whom retain authority over their own practices - and the large practice accounting teams serving the 19+ practices, the Vice President - Practice Controller, must possess strong business and accounting skills as well as very strong relational and communication skills. This position is a highly active, practice facing position interacting with a broad group of individuals.
Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary practice facing accounting leader to the individual practices
  • Manage the overall practice accounting team, currently consisting of over 50 individuals with several Director level direct reports that are responsible for revenue recognition/recording, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaids, fixed assets, and other general GAAP income statement and balance sheet accounting
  • Lead the monthly practice accounting close process, including close coordination, collaboration with Corporate Accounting (which is responsible for overall OneOncology financial reporting) and financial reporting for each practice
  • Serve as a primary and trusted advisor to the Chief Financial Officer as we set priorities, develop talent and serve the practices
  • Work closely with the operations team to deliver financial results and operational insights to the business via monthly operating reviews and other practice meetings
  • Work closely with the OneOncology Corporate and Practice FP&A teams to understand and communicate practice operational and financial trends to help make strategic decisions and develop financial forecasts
  • Work closely with the Business Development/Strategic Finance team to understand future practice affiliations and integration timelines
  • Oversee and manage new practice integrations with a dedicated practice accounting integrations team reporting to the Vice President - Practice Controller
  • Serve as a key business partner throughout the Company, working closely with members of the Executive Team, FP&A, Strategic Finance, Business Development, and other departments as needed.
  • Develop, coordinate, communicate and enforce financial reporting policies, procedures and controls at the practice level
  • Ensure balance sheet account reconciliations are completed and reviewed timely for accuracy and completeness
  • Evaluate financial and operational process changes to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Participate in the continued optimization of the Company's ERP system (Workday) via workgroups and oversee ERP integrations on new partner practices
  • Coordinate research and technical accounting conclusions on complex accounting issues with Corporate Accounting
  • Grow and develop the accounting team. Evaluate staff, responsibilities and individuals for appropriate performance, skills, potential for improvement, growth and promotions
  • Support Strategic Finance, Business Development, and FP&A on acquisition evaluation and lead acquisition accounting
  • In conjunction with Corporate Accounting, Treasury, and Accounting Operations teams, lead new partnership practice accounting processes including opening balance sheet assessments
  • Ensure timely completion of significant accounting processes, such as Due To/From (DTDF) with our partner practices and oversee annual audit information with each practice leader

  • High growth nature of OneOncology means the practice accounting team will be constantly hiring new practice accountants - this leader must be comfortable operating in a constantly growing and hiring environment with the ability to discern accounting talent and invest in/develop future leaders
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment and lead cross-functional initiatives, while also building strong partner and interdepartmental relationships
  • Strong technical US GAAP accounting skills with experience applying accounting judgment to complex accounting issues (keeping in mind that the Company has a Corporate Accounting Team who lead the technical accounting functions)
  • Capacity to convey complex accounting concepts to non-financial individuals, such as physicians/practice administrators
  • Ability to deliver both favorable and unfavorable financial impacts to leaders, including practice leaders and physicians
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and knowing "when" to loop in subject matter experts for assistance and review
  • Ability to effectively motivate others, works with a sense of urgency, and prioritizes tasks
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate "Situational Analysis" - ability to maintain constant awareness of factors that may impact our relationship with our partner practices

Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of accounting leadership experience in a public accounting or corporate accounting environment that demonstrates a commanding knowledge in accounting - some level of healthcare experience strongly preferred, but not required
  • Prior experience within a Big Four or large regional accounting firm preferred
  • Proven knowledge of GAAP, FASB, and SEC regulations
  • Knowledge of internal accounting controls, industry practices (healthcare specific preferred) and the ability to research and document complex accounting and financial topics
  • Prior experience leading larger teams of professionals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced skills in Excel and Word. Workday experience a plus
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting required
  • Active CPA license strongly preferred
  • Travel flexibility (average travel ~ once per month)
  • Position will be located in Nashville
