McGraw Hill conducts business through four operating segments: K-12, Higher Education, Global Professional, and International. The role of VP, Finance – Higher Education, will be the trusted advisor to President of the segment and their leadership team and will be responsible for providing critical financial support. This individual will lead the segment finance team partnering with the segment business to drive strategy, planning, overall financial performance, and financial control in all markets.
This integral role will be a key member of the Finance and Segment Leadership teams, providing critical partnership, financial guidance, and actionable reporting on the results of the division. They will provide inspiration, input and support to the wider finance support community as well as those in their direct reporting line and will be a key conduit for delivery of our finance goals and vision.

What you will be doing
- Partner with business leaders to understand the current dynamics in relevant parts of the company portfolio, compare market trends and optimize investment opportunities.
- Directly responsible for controlling and driving financial analysis for designated segment including revenue, opex and capex.
- Provide executive leadership in the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives and offer recommendations to enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
- Work in partnership across Finance to support the outcomes of the division across financial control, tax, treasury, internal audit and treasury.
- Drive the continued transformation of the Finance function, to enable, assess and incorporate best practice to ensure scalable, flexible, efficient, and high performing service offering.
- Act as a custodian of the division’s assets, manage risk and ensure appropriate compliance and controls culture.
- Provide critical inputs to the business planning and expenditure forecasting processes; innovate to enhance the business impact of target setting, planning, and budgeting.
- Set and define the framework for organizational goals and objectives and lead organization-wide strategy, planning, design, and implementation work.
- Responsible for supporting investor relations team with media/shareholder financial issues/updates. Supporting the division president with any direct shareholder conversations, overseen by the IR team.
- Up to 25% travel required
We’re looking for someone with
- Bachelor’s Degree/Master’s Degree in related field
- Minimum of 13 years professional experience
- Minimum of 8 years of increasing managerial experience
- Proven senior finance leader with commercial acumen and experience of leading and developing large cross-cultural and high-performance teams.
- Significant experience of partnering with senior business stakeholders in a commercial senior leadership finance role.
