The Position:
CBE is hiring Voter Outreach Organizers that will be based in either Richmond, California or Los Angeles, California. The Organizer will form part of a 5-week phone bank and canvass effort to engage voters on the issues of corporate accountability, affordable housing, and building a statewide membership base of progressive youth and communities of color. The person in this role should be strongly self-motivated, and highly skilled with conversing over the phone and in-person to mobilize Black, African-American, Indigenous, Latine, youth and voters of color to get involved and take action. This is an in-person position with expectation for in-person phone-banking and canvassing from our local offices either in Richmond, CA or Los Angeles, CA. This position reports to the Voter Outreach Lead, will work in collaboration with other Outreach Organizers, is a member of CBE’s Civic Engagement Department, and attends alliance trainings and meetings.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
Political Education: Through provided trainings, become familiar with housing justice, tax equity issues, environmental and social justice to train and mobilize team members to get involved in organizing efforts
Phone Banking and Canvassing: Engage a specific subset of voters through phone banking and canvassing efforts. Maintain professional and persuasive conversations with voters and peers. Phone banking 3.5 - 4 hours per day. Accurately mark voter responses and input voter contact data. Immediately notify Leads of technology issues with mobile voter data applications and phone banking application
Volunteer Recruitment: Recruit volunteers to assist with Voter Outreach and support volunteers in reaching their voter contact goals
Texting: Engage voters through a texting system
Education: Support with facilitation of educational presentations and trainings to increase community support
Spokespersonship: Participate in training/meetings to learn how to tell your personal story on the phones, at the doors, and to the media to help build a narrative that centers the role of young people in our campaign
Content creation: Participate in trainings/meetings to brainstorm and develop digital content, such as memes and TikTok videos, that engages young people online and mobilizes them to take action

Ability to work in high-paced, goal-oriented, and high pressure environments
Willingness to connect with diverse community groups
Interest in empowering community members and voters through community and electoral organizing
Interest in environmental, housing, and social justice, and corporate accountability
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with youth and diverse people
Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and punctual, with high integrity
Ability to work well individually and in a team setting
Previous phone banking and canvassing experience preferred, but not required
Bilingual Spanish and other languages is a plus
Compensation and Timeframe:
This is a temporary, part-time (22 hours a week) position, with an hourly rate of $22.00. This position has an expected start date of January 22, 2024 and will end on March 5, 2024. Evenings and weekends expected. Weekly work schedule will be coordinated with your supervisor. You must be available for paid orientation and training beginning January 22.
Due to the temporary part-time nature of this work, we are unable to offer most benefits; however, the position does include a therapy/mental wellness benefit as well as a limited amount of paid sick leave.
