General Description:

General Function: 

Under the general supervision of the Volunteer Development, Outreach, and Data Manager the Volunteer Onboarding Coordinator will be responsible for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for prospective volunteers. This position will also guide new volunteers through the training and certification process. This position will coordinate and oversee volunteer engagement activities and retention efforts. Leading all internal communications with volunteers including volunteer newsletters, announcements, and other initiatives. Develop media materials for program communications including photos, videos, and more. Ensure media materials meet MFS communications branding & guidelines. Our preferred candidate is a creative, strong communicator and relationship builder, and is experienced in volunteer engagement and marketing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Volunteer Development

  • Create compelling, relevant, & customized marketing assets to attract volunteers
  • Develop and deliver presentations on the volunteer experience
  • Coordinate with current partners in developing pathways for volunteer opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Volunteer Support

  • Develop and drive pathways that ensure potential volunteers have a positive and supportive environment in becoming a volunteer
  • Provide consistent and timely check ins with prospective volunteers

Story Collection

  • Drive and manage the organization’s story collection with volunteers, setting strategy to identify success stories and advocates for the organization. Interview, photograph, write compelling narratives, and foster relationships with volunteers.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • A minimum of two years experience in volunteer recruitment and or marketing
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Clear understanding of income and wealth gaps (by economics, race, & gender), under- resourced communities & inequity
  • Experience working collaboratively and professionally between teams within an organization
  • Experience with providing instruction and support to volunteers and/or training of volunteers
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders
  • Highly skilled in external relationship building
  • Ability to effectively and proactively problem-solve and resolve conflict
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • Ability to recognize and manage critical incidents within program and/mandatory reporting regulations and responsibilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of a BA/BS in communications, public service, human services or equivalent related experience

Other Requirements:

Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner.  If driving a personal vehicle must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.

MFS requires all employees and volunteers to complete a criminal background check.  We review the results of all background checks individually and consider all of the circumstances of any issues that arise in a background check during the hiring process.

Work Environment:

This role will be hybrid and will be working at the Stark Street office and remotely on occasion, with prior approval from the supervisor. Work is performed in an office environment, at community events, and/or at other locations as deemed necessary. May require occasional early morning, weekend or evening work.  Position requires ability to sit for extended periods as well as stand occasionally.  Position requires use of computer, telephone, fax machine, copier and may require accessing locations by use of stairs.
