Job description

Job Description

Founded by the Sisters of Charity of New York, the College of Mount Saint Vincent is an academically excellent, authentically inclusive, Catholic and ecumenical liberal arts college. The College combines a strong core curriculum with a full array of majors in the liberal arts and, within the tradition of liberal education, selected professional fields of study.

At Mount Saint Vincent, a student’s education extends beyond knowledge, skills, and preparation for work. We seek the development of the whole person. In the spirit of Vincent de Paul and Elizabeth Ann Seton, we foster an understanding of our common humanity, a commitment to human dignity, and a full appreciation of our obligations to each other.

Through its School of Professional and Continuing Studies, the College extends its primary undergraduate mission by offering high quality graduate studies in business, education and nursing and an array of undergraduate and certificate programs serving non-traditional students.

Job Description

The College of Mount Saint Vincent Conservatory and the Division of Communication, Art, and Media is seeking a qualified instructor to teach private voice lessons and direct the college’s acappella ensemble.

The CMSV Conservatory serves both the College of Mount Saint Vincent students (as the college music program) and the community at large (as a community music school) with private instruction on all instruments and voice. All ages, experience levels, and learning styles are welcome.

Private lessons offered through the Conservatory allow students to develop the fundamentals of singing at any level, and further the understanding and interpretation of repertoire from both classical and contemporary (jazz, musical theater, and pop) styles. The student’s specific goals in singing will be addressed, and instruction is tailored to the individual growth and artistic development of each student.

Responsibilities

As the Adjunct Professor, the hired candidate will:

  • Teach MUS 100, a semester of fourteen, 60-minute private voice lessons. This one-credit course is offered annually, in both the Fall and Spring semesters, pending student registration.
  • Direct the a cappella ensemble, a one-credit performance-based ensemble. The class meets on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00-5:00 pm during the Fall and Spring semesters, pending student registration.

The allotted salary for the Adjunct Professor position is $1000 per credit, per semester

As the Voice Instructor, the hired candidate will:

  • Teach private voice lessons to community members from youth through adult.
  • Teach year round Community Division classes with focus on 32 lesson per academic year which runs September through June.
  • Teach a minimum of one day per week starting January 2024

The allotted salary range for the Voice Instructor is $54 - $60 per hour. Hour rate is commensurate with experience.

Requirements

  • Masters of Music in Voice Performance; substantial professional and teaching experience will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree in voice performance.
  • 3-5 years teaching experience in an academic or community music school environment.
  • Versatility and flexibility to work with diverse ages, personalities, experience levels, and learning styles is highly valued.
  • Ability to represent the College in a professional manner
  • Ability to work with confidential information and exercise discretion
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff and leadership
  • Ability to use Google Suite and Gmail
