BACKGROUND: Since 1952, Beacon Group has been creating opportunities for people with disabilities across Southern Arizona, Phoenix and beyond. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, Beacon serves over 2,000 people with disabilities each year. Beacon provides job training and placement, supported and center-based employment, and day treatment programs to assist the more than two-thirds of working-age people with disabilities who do not have a job. POSITION INTRODUCTION: Beacon is seeking a dynamic, part-time Vocational Instructor. If you love our mission, you will have more fun and fulfillment that you have ever had in your career.

DESCRIPTION: The Vocational Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality services as defined by program specifications to clients in one or more programs. Services may be provided in individual and/or group settings. Information will be delivered, and services provided, virtually or in-person, as determined by contractual requirements and client needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement individual and group activities and workshops to support pre-vocational and vocational skill development and education, i.e. effective communication, transportation, etiquette, computer literacy, scheduling, exploration of benefits, and budgeting, as well as other topics as detailed in program curricula.
  • Ensure that your virtual classroom is conducive to learning - one that is safe and nurturing for all students. Provide consistency and balance for students
  • Implement lesson plans and curricula such as social skills, life skills, and study skills.
  • Provide consumer support and skills training to prepare participating youth for future employment
  • Provide advocacy, peer support, and skills training for and with youth with disabilities aligning with their service plan goals.
  • Teach life/career skills to youth to maximize employment outcomes.

GED/EDUCATIONAL SUPPORTS:

  • Assist clients with lesson plans, curriculum and coursework focused on the corresponding training programs.
  • Presents lectures and conducts discussions to increase students' knowledge and competence, using visual aids, such as graphs, charts, videotapes, and slides.
  • Administers oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Skills Training and Development:
  • Facilitate individual lessons designed around individual client needs focusing on a combination of educational and independent living.
  • skills for each client's success in achieving academic, employment, and personal goals.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Assist clients with learning various types of employment related computer skills to improve ability to obtain/maintain competitive employment.
  • Educate clients on how to set up virtual and media platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Professional, teaching, training, or tutoring experience and 1 year of direct support work experience with adults diagnosed with a physical or mental disability and/or additional barriers to employment.
  • Successfully pass the drug test and background check
  • CPR/First Aid certification, or able to obtain and maintain a CPR/ First Aid Certification
  • Fingerprint clearance card, or able to obtain and maintain a fingerprint clearance card
  • Current vehicle registration and insurance coverage

  • Have a valid Arizona Driver's License and pass the Beacon driving test<
  • Article IX be able to obtain and maintain certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and Email (A+ helpful).
  • Evidence of organization and oral presentation skills.

WORK HOURS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.
