YOUR DAY AS A VOCATIONAL COUNSELOR - EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST
As a Vocational Counselor - Employment Specialist, you have the important role of helping people thrive in their jobs! You use motivational interviewing and other proven techniques to address any concerns or work behaviors that may be holding them back. Your dedication doesn't stop there - you also provide transitional and post-employment support to help ensure that they can keep their jobs in the private sector. With your attention to detail, you review corrective and disciplinary action notices to determine the best counseling interventions.
You take pride in making sure that documentation of severe disability determination is up to date and in accordance with SourceAmerica/NYSID standards, completing annual disability reviews, and requesting new documentation when necessary. You keep detailed notes and summaries of all your interactions with clients, and when someone needs additional help, you make referrals to outside providers. As a consultant to clients' supervisors, you help with accommodations, performance, behavior, quality of work, and any other issues that arise on the job. Let's work together to help people succeed!
WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE A VOCATIONAL COUNSELOR - EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST?
- Bachelor's degree in the social services field
- 3+ years of experience in counseling in a vocational rehabilitation setting
- Knowledge of a variety of disabilities and of community resources
- Ability to work independently and take initiative when appropriate
- Ability to use a computer, the internet, and software, including Microsoft Word
