Job Summary:
JOB SUMMARY
The specialty Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Psychiatric Assessment Service (PAS) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team in the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and Vanderbilt University Hospital Emergency Department. All work is performed in a team-based approach to care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The NP functions, in collaboration with the PAS physician, Registered Nurses, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Mental Health Specialists, to evaluate and treat patients who have walked into the space for assessment or have been transferred from the ED. The NP is responsible for Medical Screening Exams, diagnosis and treatment of the acute psychiatric patient, management of non-emergent medical conditions, and discharging as needed to the appropriate level of care or transferring as appropriate to the designated facility for continued care. The NP should have strong communication skills and be able to coordinate effectively with an interdisciplinary team located in the PAS and Emergency Department.
The NP should have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education, a responsibility for ensuring adherence to diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms and protocols, and ensure an environment of safe quality care for a wide range of care needs. The NP demonstrates an advanced level of psychiatric, medical, and nursing knowledge, clinical competence, sound judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and personal initiative to sustain professional development.
Please note that this position is primarily for evening and weekend hours.
Basic Qualifications: This position requires a Master's degree in Nursing. Experience in an acute psychiatric care setting, preferably Emergency Psychiatry, is recommended.
License Required: Current Tennessee RN and APN license with certificate of fitness to prescribe and PMHNP certification required.
Must be eligible for DEA license.
