Job description

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division, Epidemiology and Scientific Support Bureau.

This Epidemiologist position studies the occurrence of disease and other health-related conditions or events in defined populations to implement prevention and control measures. This position will be involved in the implementation of the modernized Vital Records Event Registration System, responsible for managing large vital records datasets, and maintaining documentation of those data. This position also analyzes vital records data and other public health surveillance data to monitor trends in population health. Additionally, this position develops and conducts various trainings related to epidemiology, data analysis, or data management.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity 

  • Knowledge of the methods, principles, and practices of epidemiology.
  • Ability to manipulate and analyze large, complex data sets.
  • Ability to identify problems/relationships and trends in data as well as factors that could affect the results of research.
  • Meet minimum qualifications:
    • Master's degree in epidemiology, statistics, or a closely related degree.
    • Three years job related experience in epidemiology including experience managing complex data systems.
    • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered.

Additional Information

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

 

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.50 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2024.

This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants. The first screening of candidates will take place on April 3, 2024.
