Visual Arts Teacher

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Visual Arts Teacher is a full-time teacher and member of the Visual Arts Department, reporting to the Division Head and Instructional Leader. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment where value is placed on the skills and passions of the discipline within a larger context of Milken’s mission, core values, and educational philosophy. Primary responsibilities include teaching 5 Visual Arts classes per year (13.5 classroom hours per week), serving as a Student Advisor, and collaborating on school-wide programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide differentiation and intervention when necessary and appropriate.

• Monitor progress of each student for mastery of course standards.

• Provide consistent high quality feedback to students that is consistent with articulated course standards.

• Design high quality, student centered lessons that are well-sequenced in terms of content and developmental appropriateness.

• Create a safe and welcoming learning environment.

• Engage with students outside of the classroom through office hours, extracurricular activities, clubs, and school-wide programming.

• Pursue ongoing professional development.

• Maintain clear and ongoing professional communication with parents and students.

• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required, master’s degree or higher preferred.

• Previous teaching experience required..
