Visual Arts Coordinator
Position Summary
The Utah Division of Arts & Museums (UA&M) seeks a Visual Arts Coordinator to develop and implement a Visual Arts plan for programming, which will assist traveling exhibitions, State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne Art Collection, and the Chase Museum. This position will have curator responsibilities, manage a budget and maintain communications through the Visual Arts newsletter and other social media. The position is full-time, benefitted, working Monday through Friday in Salt Lake City with some evening and weekend hours.Essential Duties
- Project management and facilitation of the Statewide Annual Exhibition; including research, call for artists (use of Submittable), selection of jurors, curation, contracts, gallery preparation, installation, and public reception
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to produce exhibitions and educational content for the Traveling Exhibitions Program, Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts, and other exhibition opportunities including research and writing of curatorial content for exhibitions
- Coordinate with the marketing team to develop content, public outreach strategies, and data collection to inform future programming (ie, Visual Artist, Fellowship and other related newsletters, social media, website, etc.)
- Coordinate with the collection team on the State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne Art Collection acquisition process and development of a new collection catalog
- Coordinate with UA&M staff on management of the fellowship program
- Maintain Visual Arts program budget, and work with UA&M and Department of Cultural & Community Engagement (CCE) finance staff on review and reporting
- Coordinate direct services to individual artists
- Foster and maintain a positive working relationship with Utah artists by providing responsive customer service, training, and coordination
- Additional duties as assigned by UA&M and CCE
- 4+ years experience in a Visual Arts related field
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated experience in successful project management
- Training and experience in arts education, particularly curriculum development for interpretive materials
- Demonstrated awareness of local and national arts communities, needs and trends, including a wide variety of historical and contemporary Visual Arts genres
- Conversant in artistic media and art installation best practices
- Demonstrated ability to develop professional curatorial content
- Professional art handling knowledge and experience
- Ability to develop, gather, and report on constituent feedback and demographics to inform programming recommendations
- Demonstrated experience with public speaking & community outreach

The Utah Division of Arts & Museums is a public agency composed of two advisory boards
(the Utah Museum Services Advisory Board and the Utah Arts Advisory Board), and a full
time staff of 21 FTE. As the state's primary agency that focuses on supporting Utah's arts,
