Aurora University seeks talented faculty who are passionate about teaching and learning. As a private institution, Aurora University expects faculty to be involved in the lives of students through mentoring, student support, enrollment initiatives, and other activities related to the college experience. To facilitate this highly interactive faculty/student relationship, the typical teaching load is three 4 credit-hour courses per semester. Student advising is supported by professional staff. Undergraduate faculty share in the delivery of the general education program, most often by teaching within the university's interdisciplinary core. Evidence of successful teaching, or a strong potential for successful teaching, is required for all positions. Experience teaching at a smaller, private institution is highly preferred.

Position Purpose: The Visiting Senior Lecturer of Theatre supports learning by teaching theatre courses and mentoring students in technical skills related to staging dramatic productions.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Teach undergraduate Theatre courses based on area of interest and specialization.
  2. Serve as production manager for the 3-show season at Aurora University.
  3. Direct or design as part of the AU season, depending on interest, experience, and specialization.
  4. Share in the delivery of the general education program, most often by teaching within the university's interdisciplinary core.
  5. Participate in curricular development, program assessment, student advising, internship, and student group supervision.
  6. Participate in activities of the college including recruiting, mentoring, and other services.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education: MA in Theatre; an MFA in Theatre is preferred.Experience: Evidence of successful teaching or a strong potential for successful teaching; experience with production management or direction.Skills: Those skills associated with teaching and theatre direction.Physical Requirements: Those physical requirements associated with teaching and technical direction.
