Position Description
The Department of Music at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a two-year nonrenewable position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Music with a specialization in musicology. This position has a start date of August 2024. The successful candidate will teach a 3/2 load, including core courses in music history at the undergraduate and graduate levels and specialized courses in the candidate's primary area of research.

Minimum Qualifications
To be considered, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in musicology or related field, or hold ABD status with expectations of degree completion prior to August 2024.
We seek an outstanding teacher and scholar who demonstrates a dedication to undergraduate and graduate teaching, including curricular development, and a commitment to supporting our master'slevel programs in musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory. About our Program
The Department of Music is a vibrant community led by a distinguished and enthusiastic faculty dedicated to teaching, research, performance, and community engagement. We offer undergraduate degrees (BA in music, BM in music education, BM in performance) and graduate degrees (MM in choral conducting, collaborative piano, ethnomusicology, music education, performance, music theory, or musicology and PhD in music with an emphasis in music education that includes an additional option to add an emphasis in gender studies). We also serve the wider campus community through our academic courses and performing ensembles. Annually, there are on average 120 undergraduates and 60 graduate students in our degree programs, and approximately 2,500 students enrolled in our classes and ensembles. The Department of Music maintains an active presence in the Lafayette/Oxford/University community and across the region. The mission of the Department of Music is to provide the highest quality education at the undergraduate and graduate levels for music majors embarking on careers as teachers, scholars, performers, as well as in a range of other professions. We are also dedicated to teaching non-majors and members of the community about music as a part of human culture and experience.
