Western National is seeking a Loss Control Consultant to join our team!


The individual in this role will have the opportunity to conduct Virtual Loss Control surveys over the phone. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a combination of excellent customer service skills in addition to prior Loss Control experience with a commercial insurance carrier.


This individual will primarily handle low-to-mid-sized accounts, with the possibility of increasing size and complexity of accounts based on the candidate’s prior experience and capabilities. Our ideal candidate will have a combination of fundamental knowledge and some practical Loss Control experience with property, life safety, commercial auto, and workers’ compensation risks and exposures.


This is a remote position that requires consistent high-speed internet access to efficiently use a variety of mobile / video technology platforms and access other company systems.


What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?

  • Conducts Virtual Loss Control surveys via phone or other technology-based platforms to evaluate and gather pertinent information regarding property, physical premises, operations, safety policies and programs, and other risks / exposures to assist with the underwriting process.
  • Provides both verbal and written report information regarding operations, risk hazards, exposures, and controls in a timely manner.
  • Makes Loss Control recommendations based on virtual survey findings to mitigate and control losses, and influences others to act on recommendations.
  • Builds and maintains productive relationships with policyholders, agents, underwriting, claims, and others.
  • Provides ongoing technical support to assist with recommendation compliance.
  • Provides input on innovative virtual tools and resources to promote or enhance the virtual experience of customers.
  • Conducts research and analyzes data to help identify risk sources and potential losses.
  • Based on experience, this position may also include special assignments and special projects that may involve oversight and relationship management with strategic alliance partnerships with Loss Control vendors, suppliers, or services.
Requirements:

What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate?

  • Prior experience and ability to evaluate and gather property risk information like COPE (construction, occupancy, protection, and exposures) and life safety to support underwriting submissions and reviews.
  • Ability to locate, interpret, and apply relevant local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and standards like NFPA, FMCSA, and OSHA.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to gather information in a consultative manner and build a positive internal / external customer experience.
  • Ability to effectively exchange information clearly and concisely, present ideas, report facts, and respond to questions, as appropriate.
  • Ability to provide customer service by responding appropriately to inquiries or concerns from agents, policyholders, management, and employees.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and influencing skills to establish and maintain an effective working and client relationship.

What will our ideal candidate have?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related business or direct work experience in safety, insurance, or risk management for a commercial insurance carrier.
  • Minimum of one year of multi-line (e.g., property, liability, commercial auto, workers’ compensation) Loss Control field experience with a commercial insurance carrier.
  • Ability to work independently out of a home office location with minimum supervision to meet production goals and assigned tasks.
  • Requires excellent time management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet necessary deadlines and performance expectations.
  • Must have very strong computer skills and knowledge of working with the Microsoft 365 suite of products.
  • Must have high-speed internet access to support work from home setups to facilitate video conference meetings, chat features, efficient file transfers, and access to various work applications. Internet speed test should demonstrate a minimum internet speed of 100 Mbps download speed and 10 Mbps upload speed. Ability to connect directly using ethernet cable is preferred to decrease connectivity issues.
  • Preferred time zone for position is the Central time zone, but consideration will be given to ability and willingness to be flexible in scheduling virtual meetings to accommodate customers in different time zones across the United States.

Compensation overview

The full hiring range for this role is $55,300 – $102,300 annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and / or may be considered for other positions.
