About the Role

 

Under the direction of the Vineyard Manager, the Vineyard Foreman provides direct, daily supervision of Vineyard Crews and facilitates all operations for all aspects of vineyard management.

 

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

 

  • Act as vineyard contact person in the Vineyard Manager's/Asst Manager absence.
  • Plans, assigns and supervises work schedule.
  • Monitors and assigns duties such as planting, pruning, canopy management, trellis and irrigation installation, cultural practices and harvesting and oversees all work activities.
  • Oversee daily cultural practices and farming activities (pruning, tying, suckering, training, planting, wire repair and placement, cultivation, weed control, etc.)
  • Maintain work quality control (internal and contract labor).
  • Maintain work records (internal and contract labor-work orders, payroll).
  • Supervises safe and efficient work practices of tractor-equipment operators and irrigators.
  • Responsible for implementing the directions, coordination and evaluation of these units with guidance from vineyard management teams.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies; addressing complaints and helping to resolve problems.
  • Trains employees in safe operating procedures and quality guidelines.
  • Explains and demonstrates field work techniques and safety regulations to workers.
  • Enforces safety regulations, policies and procedures to workers.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • Must also work closely with the supervisors of all outside labor contract companies.
  • Provides performance feedback on employees to manager.
  • Acts as first contact in event of incident or injury to field employees.
  • Supervises and or keeps employee time and labor activity records (payroll).
  • Ensure Vineyard Crews have all required facilities (bathrooms, water, etc); may delegate to crew leader.
  • Oversee pesticide applications (record keeping and calibration).
  • Perform vineyard observation and monitoring.
  • Oversee project work (new planting, budding, erosion control, etc).
  • Maintain frost and irrigation records.
  • Ensure maintenance of tools.
  • Maintain inventory of vineyard supplies.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all vineyard equipment to secure proper working order.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs as necessary.
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment (interaction with Vineyard Shop).
  • Assist equipment operators with equipment adjustments to ensure proper use (minimize unplanned maintenance).
  • Understand and promote the culture of TWE HSE.
  • Enforce safe work practices.
  • Perform safety trainings.
  • Perform safety inspections (site, equipment, practices, etc.)

 

About You

 

  • 5+ years' experience in vineyard work.
  • Should have experience with hand tools and power tools.
  • Must have experience with farm equipment.
  • General computer skills are a benefit.
  • Should have some experience as a Crew Leader.
  • Must have a Current Class C California Drivers License.
  • Must be able to work without supervision.
  • Must be organized, able to follow projects through to completion with written notation.
  • Must be self-motivated, flexible and reliable.
  • Must be able to supervise a group of employees (lead by example).
  •  Bilingual preferred - speaking English/Spanish.
  • Must be able to communicate with co-workers, contractors and management.
  • Must be able to comprehend simple instruction (written or verbal).
  • Must be able to provide instruction on basic vineyard practices.
  • Should have demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends and overtime if non-exempt.
  • Requires some regional and occasional statewide travel; clear driving record/license.
  • Must be able to work variable seasonal shifts and overtime as required.

Pay Transparency Disclosure: The base pay range offered for this position is based on a yearly salary of $27.40 to $32.69 per hour.  These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. Our expectation is that the incumbent will work out of Central Coast, CA.  If the incumbent works out of another location, the wage rate may fall above or below this range. Treasury reserves the right to modify the range in the future.
