San Francisco Proper's Executive Chef Jason Fox, former chef/owner of Michelin Star restaurant Commonwealth, leads the hotel's three unique dining outlets: Villon, Charmaine's, and La Bande. We are looking for experienced servers to join our growing Villon team. Villon is the San Francisco Proper's flagship restaurant currently offering breakfast, lunch, and tea service.
Chef Fox brings his extensive knowledge of progressive California cuisine to the property and draws on local ingredients and worldly flavors. Our goal is to build a team of restaurant professionals passionate about food, elevated service, and wine. We are looking for hospitality professionals who are eager to create unique/elevated dining experiences for our local and hotel guests in a dining room beautifully designed by Kelly Wearstler. Our cocktail list is specific to Villon and has been curated through our partnership with The Bon Vivant who!
What follows is a general overview of some of the qualifications for, and duties associated with, this position, and certain expectations regarding job performance. Job Overview
Must love hospitality! The Server is responsible for providing efficient service to all guests in accordance with hotel standards.
Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Must possess a positive attitude and be a team player.
  • Must be service oriented and have a strong attention to detail.
  • Must possess a desire to learn about food and wine. Wine certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Keep up to date on current trends in the fine dining market
  • Must be adept in wine, spirits, beer, and food knowledge
  • Must possess the following wine knowledge:
    • Varietal types and differentiating characteristics
    • Wine regions and accompanying varietals grown in those regions
    • Ability to speak eloquently and confidently about tasting profile
    • General understanding of the winemaking process
    • Confident sales demeanor when speaking to guests about wine
  • Possess knowledge of find dining cooking techniques and processes
  • Ability to remain calm, multitask, and make quick, precise decisions while under pressure in a fast moving environment
  • Must posses a natural and strong sense of urgency
  • Must be passionate about the cutting edge food and beverage scene
  • Must be trustworthy and responsible
  • Must be punctual and driven
  • Must have experience working in a fine dining setting

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

Qualification Standards:
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent education preferred
  • Experience: Over 2 years previous experience in a similar position preferred
Licenses or Certificates:
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification is a prerequisite for this role.
  • California Responsible Beverage Service Training & Certification is a prerequisite for this role.
Per San Francisco City Ordinance, candidates must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to be considered for this position.
