This position is being recruited for in Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau. Pay will be determined based on location of selected individual.
Anchorage salary: $2,994.75 biweekly
Fairbanks salary: $3,084.75 biweekly
Juneau salary: $3,144.75 biweekly

The Division of Water, within the Department of Environmental Conservation, is recruiting a Village Safe Water (VSW) Project Manager. Individuals with a background in planning, design, architecture, civil or environmental engineering, construction, or project management are encouraged to apply.
VSW Project Managers are responsible for working with rural Alaskan communities to identify and define their sanitation deficiencies, develop planning documents to evaluate alternatives to address sanitation deficiencies, pursue funding, and implement design and construction projects. VSW Project Managers work with a team, including project support staff, accountants, procurement specialists, and grants administrators, to see projects to completion. The work of VSW is often challenging due to resources, geography, and climate, but it is also incredibly fulfilling and rewarding.

The mission of the Division of Water is to protect public health and the environment. This position contributes to that mission by providing project management insight on sanitation infrastructure improvements, informing decisions about funding allocation, and participating in development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure consistent and proactive oversight of funded projects.
VSW is a team of environmental specialists, engineers and project management professionals dedicated to the mission of providing safe drinking water and sanitary sewage disposal and protecting water quality for all Alaskans.

VSW's primary functions are to manage projects to develop sustainable water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities. The activities of the program have a direct positive effect on public health in hundreds of Alaskan villages.
The working environment you can expect:
This position will be located in Juneau, Fairbanks or Anchorage, based on the selected candidate. The hours can be flexible and telecommuniting is possible. The work will require short-duration travel to rural communities in Alaska. Travel for training and project site inspections should be expected.

  • This position includes some travel within the State. Travel may include small plane, boat or snow machine.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in
  • Budget Administration: Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis; including preparing, justifying, reporting on, and executing the budget; and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting systems.
  • Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings.
  • Facilities: Knowledge of the physical, engineering, and experimental equipment and operational characteristics of facilities, and safety and equipment development designed to support activities.
  • Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
  • Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in facility management, public or business administration, planning, design, architecture, engineering, construction or maintenance, project or cost management or a closely related field.

"Typically gained by" means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
