ROLE: Vice President, Development & Co-Lead, Global Partnerships


REPORTS TO: President & CEO


DIRECT REPORTS: Senior Director, Development; Directors, Major Gifts; Manager, Global Partnerships Operations


SUMMARY

The VP of Development is part of the Executive Team that drives Global Fund for Women’s strategy to center movements and shift power. Together with the VP of Programs, the VP of Development co-leads the Global Partnerships Team, which mobilizes and deploys resources in response to movements’ needs through diverse initiatives and partnerships worldwide. In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for the organization’s fundraising and development activities, providing strategic leadership to meet the organization’s annual fundraising goals and overseeing the direction and management of Global Fund for Women’s efforts to raise funds to meet movements’ needs.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Strategy and Leadership:

  • Provide strategic leadership to meet the organization’s annual fundraising goals.
  • Oversee the direction and management of Global Fund for Women’s efforts to raise funds to meet movements’ needs.
  • Lead the development and implementation of annual fundraising plans for all major revenue streams including individuals, foundations, corporations, and government donors.
  • Design and implement a team structure in support of fundraising plans.
  • Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy, using data to establish a balanced mix of donor sources and fundraising programs to attract, retain, and engage donors.
  • Evaluate the effect of internal and external forces on the organization and its fundraising, and recommending short- and long-range fundraising plans and programs that support the organization's values, mission, and objectives.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor fundraising staff to directly and effectively engage Global Fund for Women's donors at all levels.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and ensure that fund development is executed in keeping with the organization’s value, vision, and mission.

Collaboration:

  • Partner with VP, Programs to implement new ways of working that align fundraising efforts with movement needs and integrate development and programmatic expertise in service of movements.
  • Partner with VP, Brand & Culture to position and present Global Fund for Women's vision, mission, values and goals to the worldwide donor community and other audiences with commitment and passion.
  • Partner with Sr. VP, Global Operations to leverage organizational resources, develop and implement a financial strategy, facilitate cross-functional knowledge and collective learning, and ensure effective response to movements’ needs.
  • Serve on the Executive Team responsible for organization-wide decision-making
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board of Directors. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the Committee and facilitate the active participation and engagement of all Board members to leverage greater financial support from individual donors, foundations, and corporations.

KEY SKILLS/WAYS OF DOING

  • At least 10 years of experience in senior management with proven effectiveness in designing and implementing resource mobilization strategies; managing 10+ people teams; developing and monitoring budgets.
  • Experience as a fundraising lead in a similar organization with annual budget of at least $25M.
  • Exemplary fundraising skills across full spectrum of fundraising, with particular acumen and aptitude for major gifts fundraising.
  • Experience in influencing philanthropy and leading donor education efforts
  • Understand and embrace community-centric fundraising principles
  • Knowledge of feminist funds and feminist funding principles.
  • Knowledge of optimal planning, processes and systems for fund development; fluency in Salesforce desirable.
  • Track record in feminist philanthropy and trust-based philanthropy, and supporting grassroots in a progressive way.
  • Deep understanding of the philanthropic landscape and ability to conduct external analysis to inform strategy adaptation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build teams through feminist leadership and values: embodying feminist principles in interacting with staff at all levels; empowering team members with direction and trust and motivating them to do their job well; showing genuine interests in people and helping them grow; managing people with humility, empathy, active listening and learning; building strong, collaborative teams; fostering an internal culture with feminist values.
  • Significant experience in organizational change management.
  • Track record in leading organizational strategy development processes and implementation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: be able to articulate with passion, commitment and respect the complex concepts involved in the Global Fund for Women’s important work; be able to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and with development committees.
  • Extensive experience living and working in different countries, regions, and cultural contexts desirable.
  • Multi-lingual desirable.
  • Able to travel nationally and internationally.
  • International candidates will be considered, but US candidates are preferred. If based outside of the US, candidate must be able to work between the hours of 12p and 8p UTC, and travel to the US at least once/quarter for up to two weeks at a time.

Salary Range: $160,000 - $248,000*

  • This range is reflective of our high-market geo in the United States, and will vary based on the candidate’s city, state, and country of residence.
