Position Summary
The Vice President of Analytics will provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of data scientists responsible for strategic use of data that improves financial and operational performance across all the company's lines of business. The VP of Analytics will work with cross functional company leadership to develop proactive monitoring activities and creative solutions to emerging challenges.
Essential Functions
- Conduct interviews and hiring of direct reports. Complete a 90-day introductory and annual performance evaluation of each direct report. Facilitate professional growth and improved proficiency of staff who are direct and indirect reports through mentoring and training. Conduct ongoing performance management of each direct report; establishes performance goals; and measures performance against goals.
- Work with senior leadership to build and implement the strategy for how claims, clinical, and operational data are used to achieve the optimum health outcomes for our members and financial performance for the company.
- Oversee design, development and implementation of BI platforms that highlight KPIs and support proactive issue identification and data driven decisions.
- Oversee development of data analysis methodologies for internal stakeholders, including establishing and documenting analytic and modeling standards.
- Perform ongoing review of State, DOH and CMS submission requirements as needed and create documentation on the overall process. Respond to ad hoc requests from regulatory agencies.
- Stay informed of emerging trends in advanced analytics, including: statistics, data analysis, artificial intelligence tools, data mining, and data management.
- Collaborate with IT management to monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot data integrity issues.
- Collaborate with IT management to enhance data warehouse analysis, including developing training and documentation to ensure consistent appropriate use of data.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, mathematics or similar field required; advanced degree or additional relevant training strongly preferred.
- At least 10 years' analytic experience with health insurance, health plans, clinical programs, or related industry; Medicaid and/or Medicare experience preferred.
- Experience with data warehousing and BI toolsets.
- At least 3 years' supervisory experience.
Required Skills
- Strong technical aptitude in data modeling, mathematics, statistics, and data science principles.
- Proficiency with analytic tools such as R, Python, SAS, SQL, MicroStrategy, Power BI, and Tableau.
- Working knowledge of clinical terminology and health quality metrics.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to drive results that are aligned with organizational goals.
- Proactive, assertive, and creative approach to problem-solving.
- Hands-on approach, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to translate complex analytic concepts for non-analytic audiences.
