Job description

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine is currently recruiting for a faculty member at the Associate Professor level and above to serve as the Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine. The successful applicant should have board certification in Emergency Medicine (if an MD or DO) with experience in translational and/or clinical research. In addition, they should have evidence of extramural funding. The Department has a highly-dedicated faculty, including junior, mid-career, and senior members with a diverse mix of clinical, research and educational interests. The Vice Chair serves as a leader in advancing the research mission of the Department, with particular focus on enhancing the pipeline of Researchers and increasing extramural funding.  The individual will report directly to the Department Chair and will serve on the Department Executive Committee. The Vice Chair of Research will be expected to oversee research, career development and mentorship of select faculty, fellows, and promising residents committed to a research career. Department research priorities include but are not limited to: acute cardiopulmonary and vascular disease diagnosis and treatment, resuscitation, and informatics, with emerging work in implementation science and population health and equitable care delivery. 

Emergency Medicine at UT Southwestern and Parkland Health and Hospital System is expanding its faculty in both general EM and subspecialty areas.  The Parkland Emergency Department is an ACS Level I Trauma Center triaging approximately 220,000 patients per year, treating 135,000 high acuity patients, and also operates accredited regional Burn, Stroke, and Poison Centers. The Clements University Hospital Emergency Department is a high acuity emergency department that serves a large number of oncology, neurovascular, and complex cardiovascular patients. The three-year EM residency program gives faculty the opportunity to work in a productive teaching and learning environment.

Position Expectations:

  • Full-time faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine with an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Texas (if an MD or DO)
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or Doctor of Public Health
  • Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience
  • Experience in acute emergency care research; with academic achievement and productivity as evidenced by grant funding, national academic activities, and recognition in academics.
  • Experience in guiding and mentoring junior faculty, fellows, resident physicians and medical students in academic activities
  • Demonstrated ethical conduct, professionalism, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and management abilities to effectively direct and develop academic physicians and support staff

 

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degrees in research methodology.

Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.  Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule.
