Responsibilities:
-The Triage Technician/Assistant will provide professional nursing assessments over the phone and prioritize treatments according to the urgency of need.
-Assist the pharmacy to help guarantee that pets in need can acquire the appropriate medications.
-The Telephone Triage Nurse will ensure that communication with each caller will be handled professionally and tactfully. When applicable, the patient's symptoms will be assessed and triaged using the nursing process and approved guidelines and protocols to obtain proper care and/or owner-provided at-home care advice.
- Administer medications as directed by healthcare providers
- Assist with medical administrative support tasks, such as scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records
- Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, including X-rays
- Provide excellent patient service and ensure patient comfort and safety
-Phone triage and assessment of sick and/or critical patients.
-Determine if the patient will also require an in-person triage.
-Facilitate the appropriate course of action for a triage, ie., monitor at home, needs to be seen by a provider or referral to ER. Venipuncture, as needed. Catheter placement, as needed.
-Laboratory work, as needed. Pharmacy. Medical record input- history taking. Client communication to include discharges and patient updates.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred
- Ability to accurately measure and record vital signs
- Familiarity with medication administration protocols
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-A degree in Veterinary Technology is encouraged; however, not necessary.
-Highschool or GED Experience: 3-5 years minimum of veterinary experience.
- Must be knowledgeable about various medical problems and can communicate their knowledge effectively.
-All levels of experience in the veterinary field will be considered.
- Is capable of training team members.

-Must be able to work well under stress and tactfully relate to the general public, assistants, technicians, and physicians.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
