Veterinary Surgery and Anesthesia Nurse (Buzzards Bay and Dennis, MA)

About this role
As an anesthesia and Surgery Nurse, you'll play a crucial role in the surgical team, supporting doctors and teammates to ensure each patient receives high-quality care from admission to discharge. Basic and advanced skill utilization and applying knowledge and compassion are crucial to this role. You can expect to use or learn skills in pain management, trend changes and system monitoring, anesthesia and induction, and pre-, intra-, and post-op care, and more.
Responsibilities and Functions
- Assist surgeons with appointments and consults
- Collaborate with the specialists on surgical cases
- Oversee and carry out induction, prep, monitoring, and recovery of assigned surgical patients
- Obtain pre and post-operative diagnostics
- Perform pre and post-operative treatments as indicated by the doctors
- Monitor and assist with various ASA-level patients
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment
- Assist with training of new staff and assist other departments, as needed
- Have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and handle stress calmly
- Be a team player, have patience, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Be detail-oriented to meet the high level of quality medicine.

- Includes all shifts, with some holiday, weekend, and on-call hours
- This is a hybrid schedule with shifts in both Buzzards Bay and Dennis, MA.
- The initial training schedule may differ from your permanent shift.

Required Qualifications
- One or more years of surgical experience
- Knowledge and understanding of veterinary procedures and diseases related to surgical procedures
- Anesthesia and analgesia experience
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Ability to apply critical thinking to problem-solving
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Lifting and restraint of pets at least 50 pounds and the ability to work on feet most of the day
Preferred Qualifications
- CVT, RVT, or LVT (or ability to obtain within six months) is strongly preferred
- VTS A&A preferred, or desire to achieve
- Advanced anesthesia and analgesia experience
