Job Summary:
Perform imaging on animals of all species with compassionate and appropriate patient care. Perform imaging studies which may include Radiographs, CT, NM, MRI and/or Ultrasound exams on patients as requested by radiologists and/or other clinicians, documenting the completed exams. Maintain records and perform routine quality control associated with each modality. Instruct and assist veterinary students in positioning of patients for routine, special, and/or emergency procedures. Model radiation safety and follow ALACA guidelines and university radiation safety standards and policies. Maintain stock and cleanliness of assigned room(s). Perform minor administrative duties. Complete other tasks that are assigned or become necessary. If on emergency duty, must be available and on site within 30 minutes and must be willing to fill in, in an emergency situation. Promotional opportunities may be available through established career development plan.
Employee may be required to rotate with other radiology technologists in maintaining holiday work schedules and emergency call schedules. Will be subject to stay after 5:00 pm at times to complete necessary work and to be called in occasionally for emergency Imaging procedures. Emergency schedule is subject to change.
In addition to occupational radiation exposure, working with horses, cattle and other farm animals and some dogs, cats and exotic animals can expose worker to physical injury such as kicks and animal bites. Rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis is required (and provided by the VTH). Some animals are loud, have a bad smell, may eliminate excrement inappropriately and may otherwise be uncooperative, making the work assignment more difficult. Employee may occasionally be required to clean up excrement, vomit, etc.
Must be able to assist with lifting heavy dogs, up to 120 pounds. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.

Position Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Associate degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program or technical degree from a certified radiology training program.
Must be able to perform routine diagnostic imaging studies. Animal handling skills or ability/willingness to learn is required. Must be comfortable working with animals in general, including large animals. Must be able to assist with lifting heavy dogs, up to 100-120 pounds.
Radiography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and/or Nuclear Medicine experience/training desired, but not necessary. Will provide training for other modalities in the imaging service. Will need to be able to quickly maneuver around x-ray table to position animal patients and between table and adjacent anesthetic equipment. Must be comfortable with Windows-based computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five years of veterinary technician experience and/or radiological technologist experience. Must also have 5 years of experience solely utilizing and performing studies with two of three specialized modalities in CT, MRI, or Nuclear Medicine Imaging.
