Job description

Veterinarian Training Mentor

Hospital Owner with collaboration with Director of Training and Staff Development and hospital Medical Directors at:

Pennsauken Animal Hospital, Art City Vets & Urgent Care, Absecon Veterinary Hospital, Audubon Family Veterinary Center, Exclusively Cats Medford, Cape Veterinary Hospital, and Mount Laural Animal Hospital.

Coordinates with: Management at each practice

To coordinate and help execute all training directives as directed by the Director of Training and managers at the locations above.

The Training Mentor is responsible for on the floor training of individual veterinarians and teams at each practice. This involves guiding veterinarians in routine exams and appointments, urgent care cases, emergency cases, and surgery as well as providing didactic resources as appropriate.

●Oversee onboarding of new veterinarians

· Implements and tracks progress of all training initiatives in a timely manner as directed by the hospital management team at each hospital.

● Work closely with the Medical Director to identify training needs within each hospital.

● Work with Director of Training and Staff Development and Medical Directors at each of the practices, to create individualized and group training goals and ensures their execution.

●Work with the Director of Training to help organize, plan, set up, and train at skill practicing labs.

● Work with the Director of Training to develop educational courses online to go along with on the floor training.

● Write up or evaluate Standard Operating Procedures and share best practices between hospitals. Work with medical directors to disseminate and ensure compliance.

● Work with the Director of Training and training teams at each practice to implement and give lectures and or roundtable discussions for internal staff.

● Identify and bridge gaps between an employee’ skills and their level/job function.

● Encourage employee participation in CE and internal training opportunities.

● Directly works with Directors at each practice to coach and direct peer training staff.

● Aid in teaching and welcoming veterinary student externs and newly graduated interns.

●Help with lectures and labs for the summer 10 week “Vet Student Bootcamp” for vet students entering their 2nd or 3rd year of school.

● Helps to enforce hospital policies while present in the hospital and acts as an example

for all staff.

● Always understands and exemplifies hospital Core Values (BE-EPIC). Holds training team accountable for upholding these core values as part of the vetmEDUcate team.

● Attend bi-monthly vetmEDUcate training meetings and send end of shift reports to ensure any training hang ups are addressed.

● Give constructive criticism and feedback to trainees as well as help form individualized training plans.

● Assist with oversite of vet student externships and intern/fellowship training programs

● Veterinary Degree and 3+ years veterinary experience required in both ER and GP settings

● Candidates must be organized, possess strong interpersonal skills, have a high attention to detail, and excellent time management skills. They must be able to facilitate change and learning and encourage engagement.

  • Obtain physical exams and perform wellness checks.
  • Interpreting radiographs.
  • Perform and teach point of care ultrasounds.
  • First aid/ urgent care treatments such as wound care, ear infections, GI upset
  • Emergency case management and hospitalized patient care
  • Educate staff/ clients about common medical conditions and zoonotic diseases.
  • Educate staff on proper record documentation.
  • Perform and teach common medical procedures and emergent procedures.
  • Fear Free and Feline Friendly practices and handling.
  • Appropriate medical record keeping
  • +/- Exotic species outpatient and/or hospitalized care
  • +/- large animal outpatient and/or hospitalized care

This job requires some physical activity.

Compensation is based on experience and skill level and ranges from $150,000-200,000. Full or part time considered

  • Must be able to ambulate/move and bend/stand for 90% of time
  • Must be able to move supplies and patients up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to use Fear-Free and feline friendly techniques to restrain patients
  • Must have the ability to work in a hospital setting, which includes:

Exposure to potential caustic agents, medical grade radiation, and cleaning

products

Exposure to zoonotic diseases and wounds potentially inflicted by patients o

Exposure to moderate to loud noises (such as barking)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
