Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments and examinations of animal patients to diagnose medical issues and develop treatment plans.
- Perform laboratory tests on specimens, including blood and urine analysis, and interpret results. Operate diagnostic equipment such as ultrasound and radiography machines and interpret resulting images.
- Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, performing surgery, dressing wounds, setting bones, and providing other necessary medical interventions.
- Administer routine vaccinations and educate animal owners about positive diet and lifestyle choices for pets. Educate the public about diseases and infections that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
- Advise owners about sanitation measures, feeding, and general care practices to ensure the health and well-being of their pets.
- Maintain accurate medical records of patient treatments and progress. Document and update forms, reports, and animal records. Report diseases to public health officials as required.
- Ensure compliance with veterinary procedures, ethics, policies, and relevant statutes. Establish or carry out quarantine or testing procedures in accordance with government regulations to prevent the spread of diseases.
- Euthanize animals in situations deemed appropriate, ensuring compassionate and ethical treatment.
Requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited institution.
- Appropriate state licensure to practice veterinary medicine.
- Strong affinity for animals and a commitment to their welfare.
- Ability to make prudent decisions regarding animal welfare.
- Outstanding communication and people skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Resilience to physical challenges and exposure to infectious diseases.
