Do you want to work with a team aimed at fighting disinformation and building trust in local news? WUSA9 is looking for a detail-oriented and curious producer and researcher to join our team and contribute to daily VERIFY content. VERIFY is a news brand dedicated to stopping the spread of misinformation and empowering our audience with the tools to be more informed and responsible news consumers.
Ideal candidates should be ambitious self-starters with an aptitude for research and story development. We're looking for someone who is plugged into established and emerging social media platforms. This position requires the ability to identify false claims as they start to establish traction online. This person should know the basic signs of whether images and video were generated by artificial intelligence models.
The position calls for deep research into story tips, enterprise content, issues, and events, to develop exclusive stories. The day-to-day work includes identifying expert sources, conducting interviews, researching background data, writing and editing scripts or articles, and editing video or graphics for broadcast and streaming content.
Researchers will be expected to provide information for day-of stories as well as longer-term investigations.
In addition, candidates should be willing and able to write and present information for both digital and television distribution related to the research they have done.
Responsibilities:
• Identify and pitch daily and long-form story ideas that fit the VERIFY brand
• Thoroughly research topics, extrapolate data and interview experts
• Write and produce VOs, VOSOTs and PKGs based on research for TV and streaming.
• Write in-depth digital articles based on research for online platforms
• Collaborate with producers, editors, reporters and anchors
• Must be able to work flexible hours
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent experience in the field
• At least two years of experience working as a news researcher, writer, reporter or producer
• Strong fact-checking and writing skills
• Strong experience using established and emerging social media platforms
• Understanding of current industry uses of Artificial Intelligence
• Impeccable news judgment and journalistic integrity
• Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments
• Basic video editing experience
Work Environment: Office

Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
