POSITION: Line Cook

JOB LOCATION: Mount Madonna Center - 445 Summit Road, Watsonville, CA, 95076

JOB SUMMARY:

If you are an enthusiastic cook with experience in a professional kitchen and are excited about creating delicious vegan/vegetarian cuisine, Mount Madonna Center (MMC) would be delighted to hear from you. The position is fast-paced, and you would be working in a beautiful, spacious kitchen with supportive staff in a collaborative work environment.

We are seeking someone who can plan and cook healthy food while working as part of a team and directing other prep staff to produce quality meals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Cooking for 40-50 residents. This number is in addition to the varying number of retreat guests we host. It can significantly increase (up to 250), depending on the size of programs we host at the center.
• Following and enhancing recipes and developing recipes for new menu items
• Understanding and ability to comply with all food safety and cleanliness standards and best practices

Key skills and experience:

• The ability to communicate in a clear, efficient manner is critical.
• Experience cooking three meals/day for a minimum of 50 guests.
• Skilled in planning and executing various types of nutritious vegan/vegetarian meals, as well as having knowledge of various types of cuisines and dietary needs.
• Skilled in bread making and desserts preferred.
• Comfortable with commercial kitchen equipment.
• Food safety certificate or training required.
• Basic computer skills are essential.
• Good time management is a must.
• Personal qualities: responsible, honest, empathetic team worker working harmoniously with others.
• Interest in self-development and community life.
• Respectful of MMC values and Code of Conduct.

Job Type:

Part-time 28 hours/week.

Rate of pay:

$17-20/hour, depending on experience.

Residential Position Available:

This position offers the opportunity to reside in a Yoga community in beautiful natural surroundings. We prefer to hire a residential staff member, but are accepting all applications. Residential housing and all meals are included for all residents. Residents pay a modest monthly activity fee based on the total number of hours contributed. Those interested in joining our multigenerational residential community would be open to living in an intentional yoga community and engaging with others in a positive way. We ask everyone to abide by the vegetarian guidelines while on the property. More details about the residential agreement will be provided during the interview.
