Job Description
Busy vein center in Queens and Long island, NY is looking for a full time, experienced, Registered Vascular Technologist to work in our Vein Center. We are looking for a candidate who can perform ultrasound examinations of the vascular system to assist the physician in the diagnosis of disorders related to the management of venous insufficiency and vein disease. The position is in Nassau County, Long Island in a comfortable, private office setting.
Applicants must possess strong interpersonal skills in order to develop trust and strong relationships with our patients. You should be able to work well both independently and in a team environment. Basic knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical instruments is required. Some basic familiarity with insurance guidelines, insurance pre-authorizations, patient scheduling, and EMR is helpful in order to work closely with front-office clinical staff. Other ancillary duties will include: ordering supplies, maintaining charts, contacting patients, assisting the physician in performing procedures, and preparing treatment rooms.
Responsibilities Include:
- Knowledge of all diagnostic ultrasound exams and venous treatment procedures.
- Perform patient evaluation and assessment of vein disease prior to ultrasound examinations.
- Communicate effectively with the patient and explain the test that will be performed.
- Perform detailed ultrasound examination of patients’ superficial and deep veins to create a venous flow map for purposes of recommending a safe and effective treatment plan.
- Ability to perform venous reflux exams in the superficial and deep venous system.
- Perform non-invasive testing procedures to evaluate arterial and venous circulation. Routine tests include: Lower Extremity Arterial Duplex scanning, Carotid Duplex, Peripheral Venous Duplex studies including: DVT study, Reflux study, Lower Extremity Vein Mapping.
- Able to perform studies independently without supervision.
- Compile test results and create preliminary reports using EMR database.
- Assist the physician in explaining the treatment plan to the patient and how that treatment plan addresses the patient’s specific needs.
- Assist the physician during image guided injection treatment sessions with the appropriate directions regarding needle placement.
- Assist the physician during Endovenous ablation treatment, with appropriate imaging regarding catheter placement and withdrawal.
- Set up and clean-up the procedure rooms, exam rooms and ultrasound rooms before and after each patient.
- Ensure that treatment rooms are ready for the day's appointments including stocking all rooms with appropriate supplies.
- Maintain equipment and manage medical supply inventory to ensure effective operations.
- Order medical supplies and maintain relationships with our medical supply vendors.
- Assist in basic office work including scheduling appointments, making follow-up calls, and scheduling procedures when needed.
- Good computer skills and experience with electronic medical records.
Qualifications:
- Certificate of Completion from an accredited Ultrasound program.
- Experience with IAC accreditation and continued quality assurance programs
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT / RVS) is a PLUS.
