UM, Capital Region, a member of the University of Maryland Medical System is looking for an Advanced Practice Practitioner to join The Heart and Vascular team covering Vascular and Thoracic Surgery to meet increasing clinical demand and expanding neuroscience roles at UM Capital Region Health located in its new state-of-the-art facility in Largo, MD.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Join a multifaceted team that covers vascular and thoracic surgery. The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) will
- Be trained to cover all aspects of vascular and thoracic care.
- Will have the opportunity to cross cover other APP lead service lines.
- Performs routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider’s delegation agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing. Under the direction of a physician, the APP will:
- Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to critically ill patients.
- Obtain medical histories, examine patients, round daily, order and interpret tests, makes initial diagnoses, and order necessary treatments.
- Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families.
- Initiates appropriate referrals and specialty consultations or other agency involvement as needed.
- Performs invasive procedures such as Central, Arterial, Hemodialysis, Pulmonary Artery Catheter line, insertion / pulling chest tubes, Thoracentesis, removal of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump
- May first assist in the operating room when necessary.
- Collaborates with attending physicians and clinicians regarding admission, discharge, and transfer decisions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and competency in required subspecialty.
- Completes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years.
- Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Board of Nursing standards and expanded job description procedural protocols.
- Facilitates excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care as part of our High Reliability Organization.
- Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines,
- Maintains a procedure complication rate less than the national average.
- Contributes to cohesive group relations; uses open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.
