Description
This position is a seasonal position with a stipend. The role of the head varsity Lacrosse Coach is to be responsible for coaching a varsity team, character development and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a higher level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork. This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents and community and follow the mission of our school. Positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety awareness are key requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and good sportsmanship.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes.
- Build and foster an inclusive, positive culture that promotes sustainable success.
- Determine game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions and while on trips off school property.
- Instill sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, facilities, and including protecting students from hazing/bullying.
- Maintain and secure all equipment and uniforms.
- Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
- Represent Bishop Moore Catholic and the Girls Lacrosse program in a professional manner.
- Maintain non discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must successfully pass Diocesan Safe Environment Training and Background Screening process.
- 5+ years of experience coaching Lacrosse.
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, opponents, staff, parents and students.
- Previous Head Coaching experience preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of cross country and running is paramount.
- Knowledge of NFHS and FHSAA rules.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
- Must possess the ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the field and serve as a positive role model and BMC Ambassador for all constituents.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Should be professionally calm and motivationally intense.
- Should be energetic and passionate for the BMC community.
- Should be a progressive thinker but a believer in planning and preparation.
