Form of workVariety Intelligence Platform (VIP+), a division of Variety that operates a digital content offering for subscribers analyzing the media and technology industries, is seeking a full-time Senior Gaming Analyst to join our team.
Position will lead VIP+ into gaming as a key content vertical as part of an expansion strategy to establish that industry as an additional subscription audience segment.
The candidate must have significant experience writing in an analytical style about the business of gaming. Whether a journalist or analyst by trade, the candidate must be a known quantity to a high-level industry audience. It’s important to have relationships in that sector, where you’ve interviewed leading executives at top companies.
VIP+ wants to build a gaming-themed content vertical around a distinguished writer in that space who can bring an industry audience to a subscription product with a mix of features ranging from weekly newsletter, occasional white papers and a live event.
The position requires someone who can work collaboratively with a team; write clean copy; work on both short- and long-term deadlines; value data-centric analysis and is comfortable with a good portion of their work appearing behind a paywall.
Qualifications:
- The VIP+ team writes with style and sophistication to engage with industry executives. A commitment to accuracy and attention to detail are a must. The VIP+ team writes clean copy that doesn’t require a lot of editing.
- The candidate must be an obsessive follower of the latest developments in the gaming industry and have no shortage of opinions on the industry.
- Data-driven analysis skills are an absolute must, as is working with easy-to-use software to create charts and tables from that data.
- Writing quickly on deadline is a plus, as is the ability to shift gears between quick-turnaround assignments and long-term projects.
- While reporting and breaking news is not part of the job description, journalists who are strong thinkers are also encouraged to apply.
- Extra points if you are active on social media; capable of creating questions for original surveys; amenable to speaking either in person in front of audiences or via livestream for panel discussions, industry conference keynotes, webinars, TV talking-head appearances, etc.
- What is essential is that you are a collaborative team player who has ideas to spare. The team at VIP+ is comfortable both giving and receiving feedback.
Requirements:
- 5+ years' experience writing, reporting or analyzing the gaming industry
- Must provide references and work samples of both short and long-form writing.
- Familiarity with WordPress or similar CMS
- Must be comfortable communicating via Slack or similar business communication platforms
Typical wage range: $110k - $130k. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
