Job Summary
The driver is responsible for providing safe transportation to IOP patients. Driver responsibilities also include scheduling routine vehicle safety and maintenance, attending to proper patient transportation in transit/loading/unloading patients, and assisting with patient care as needed and directed by the RN. Drivers must enjoy working with the geriatric population, be friendly, and possess positive communication skills.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide safe transport of patients, adhering to all safety policy and procedures for patient transit.
- Be willing to travel 50-100 miles daily for some patient routes-within southeast Arkansas.
- Assist with patient care while in transit as well as in the clinic setting.
- Monitor vehicle for safety and maintenance and report vehicles needs to supervisor.
- Maintain van cleanliness.
- Some physical demands are required in patient care and transport. (ie pushing a wheelchair)
- Must comply with all universal precautions.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Reports directly to the IOP RN.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- CPR required
- 23 years of age
- Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Skills
- CNA license preferred
- CDL preferred
- At least one year in a health care setting is preferred.
- At least one year in geriatric setting is preferred.
- At least one year mental health experience is preferred.
- Basic computer skills experience is preferred.
- Applicants should possess the ability to work well with others, have good judgment, must be flexible and capable of multitasking, desire to work with older adults, and present themselves in a neat and well-groomed appearance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
This position may require physical activities such as balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, and use of fingers and repetitive movements. An individual in this position may be required to carry or lift weight of up to 50 lbs. and push/pull 100-150 lbs. The sensory and communicative activities required for this position include feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling, and speaking. Individuals in this position could possibly be exposed to inside/outside environmental conditions, blood borne pathogens and body fluids, chemical hazards, respiratory hazards and radiological hazards.
