Job description

Moog's Space and Defense Group (SDG) in Salt Lake City Utah is looking for a Value Stream Manager to lead the execution of assigned programs.

The Value Stream Manager (VSM) is responsible to provide leadership for the activities and personnel of the assigned Value Streams in a manner to obtain a safe, highest quality, efficient, productive, and economical operation delivering product that exceeds customer expectations. This includes increasing the ratio of value to non-value add activities and eliminating waste in the overall Value Stream for a defined product family and for ensuring that the Value Stream meets or exceeds customer requirements.  The Value Stream Manager must be a strong leader of people and a team builder, as well as an excellent communicator at all levels both internally and externally.  S/he requires a high level of self-awareness and control, exceptional presentation skills and excellent written and verbal communications skills. S/he must possess strong analytical abilities and be able to coordinate and manage complex operational issues and processes as they are applied in a Lean Management System.  This role would ideally be held by someone who has an extensive, practical working knowledge of Moog business and manufacturing processes.  S/he must have demonstrated project management skills
Here's what you'll be working on day to day:
Broad responsibility and leadership for overall operation of a Value Stream Improvement Plan (VSIP) including business planning, design improvements, purchasing and supplier management, product build and delivery, and product service. Customer support as needed.  Additionally, the Value Stream Manager is a member of the Site Leadership Team, contributing to strategic and tactical planning of the entire site.  Span of Value Stream includes:

         For production - focus on internal factory- (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Assembly and Test, etc.).

         For transition to production - focus is ensuring capability of the new product to "fit" into the Value Stream and Production Preparation Process (3P).

         Create a culture of continuous improvement, team problem solving and a learning organization by meeting with Value Stream contributors regularly, reflecting on the health of the people, processes, problems, solutions and challenges.

         Be highly visible to employees, provide coaching, information, ideas, feedback and encouragement to team leaders, associates and the site to promote growth and development of the Value Stream team.

         Be a change agent and drive out waste through the entire Value Stream.

         Working with process owners, implement standard work and provide feedback to improve the internal processes to support the needs of the Value Stream.

         Working with resource managers, identify skills required of the work force and develop people to acquire and retain these skills.

         Provide regular performance feedback to Core team members and their direct Supervisors. This information will be used by Supervisors as part of the employee's performance management.

         Contribute to Site Leadership planning and execution across the entire site

Here's what you will need you to bring with you:

         Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related discipline. Advanced degree highly preferred but not required.

         Minimum of 5 years' progressive experience in position with exhibited leadership in Technical Operations or other functional area.

         Demonstrated experience (project portfolio) with lean production, process improvement tools, Kaizen, LMS, etc.

         Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications including Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, and VISIO.

Ability to access US export-controlled information

This Salt Lake City Site is a unique, 250K sq ft Moog owned property that houses businesses from different Moog Operating Groups.  Space and Defense manages the facility with the Industrial Group team operating independently and with a "We're All In This Together" collaborative approach to supporting all of the Moog employees who reside within the building.    The SDG part of the Site is an important part of the Defense Division as it's the production final assembly and test home for Turreted Weapon Systems and Missile Systems Control Actuation Systems (CAS).  Here, we reliably produce high and low volume electro-mechanical and pneumatic CAS and turret systems that meet the demanding quality and delivery requirements of our defense integration customers.  Our work force is a highly skilled aerospace trained team, with decades of experience, in a non-union, low turnover, continuous improvement environment.

The base pay range for this opportunity in UT is $90,000 - $200,000 annually.  The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual profit-sharing bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, competitive 401K plan with enhanced matching program, and many region-specific benefits.
