Job Description
User Experience | Santa Clara, CA, United States
Organization: Learning services
Role: UX Content Designer
About us
Chegg is the leading student-first connected learning platform and we're on a mission to help every student achieve their best, in school and beyond.
The role
Chegg's Learning Services org builds personalized learning tools that help students understand material, prep for exams, and gain confidence in their ability to take on any course. As we venture into redefining student support with cutting-edge AI innovations, we're on the lookout for a UX Content Designer with a unique blend of grit, determination, and creativity to join our cross-functional team of Product Designers, Product Marketers, Learning Experience Designers, Researchers, and Engineers.
In this role, you'll connect with other UX Content Designers across the org to shape the way we speak to our users and boldly carry our brand voice throughout every touchpoint. Our Content Designers work alongside Product Designers and use things like language, communication, and compelling storytelling throughout the product development and design lifecycle to create discoverable, inviting, and accessible experiences for every student. We're a nimble team that's empowered to set aggressive goals and move fast to achieve them.
How you'll find success
You'll leverage your expertise in design thinking and product strategy from the earliest strategic product discussions and design explorations, and deliver things like content frameworks, workshop outcomes, design principles, product flows, taxonomies, navigation, in-product messaging, and more for both mobile and desktop experiences. You'll also help scale the Content Design practice at Chegg by developing and contributing to things like content standards, tone and voice, terminology, and overall product quality.
Must haves
  • You excel in a fast-paced setting: you're at your best when things move quickly and can adapt swiftly to evolving project requirements.
  • Proactivity is your middle name: you don't wait for instructions; you're always two steps ahead, eager to contribute and collaborate.
  • You turn uncertainty into opportunity: you see unclear situations as opportunities to shine, bringing your creative problem-solving skills to the forefront.
  • You're a champion of brand voice: adept at tailoring it to fit any context, from a vibrant homepage banner to a concise, clear error message, you're committed to making every word distinctly 'us'.

Responsibilities
  • Help develop and define the overall product narrative to keep design decisions and user flows heading in the right direction.
  • Develop design and content principles and frameworks that scale with specific feature areas.
  • Develop messaging briefs, product narratives, and other deliverables that explain your recommendations and help collaborators understand the practice of content design.
  • Design, write, edit, test, and improve onboarding flows, UI content, navigation labels, and terminology across both web and native.
  • Leverage research and user testing to inform and validate content decisions.
  • Work with other writers to maintain and evolve our brand voice and tone, content and UX guidelines, and evangelize those resources across the company.
  • Edit and contribute to design and content in Figma or other design tools.
  • Partner with our localization team to ensure high quality experiences for every language and locale.
  • Collaborate with partners including engineering, UX design, research, data science, and product marketing from the earliest stages all the way through launch, continually and proactively soliciting (and providing) feedback.

What we're looking for on your resume
  • Bachelor's or greater degree is design, user experience, writing, or a related field
  • 2+ year's experience as a Content Designer, Content Strategist, Information Architect, Creative Copywriter, UX Writer or similar role with a UX or product design team
  • A diverse portfolio of relevant work samples across web and native
  • Ability to simplify and communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience
  • Experience working directly with Product Designers, Product Marketers, Product Managers, Marketing Copywriters, and Researchers
  • Experience working in a collaborative design environment, presenting work, and giving and receiving feedback
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects with minimal direction and managing ambiguity

Preferred
  • Passion for helping people learn and succeed in school and beyond
  • Interest in trends in AI learning tools or other apps that college students use and love
  • Curiosity about visual and motion design
  • Passion for finding and sharing inspiring copy, content patterns, and user experiences
