Summary:
This job is semi-skilled primarily involving the installation and maintenance of water meters. It requires a basic knowledge of water distribution systems and more specific understanding of meter repair and installation. Under the supervision of the Field Superintendent, the worker is expected to work independently and schedule his/her own appointments with customers. Work is subject to ongoing review in terms of quality and timeliness.
Duties include:
- Respond to complaints, service request and other service needs related to water meters.
- Install & maintain water meters to include initial installation, repairs, calibration, replacement, ongoing maintenance & seasonal removal & service.
- Perform customer service line inspections, cross-connection inspections and related inspection repairs and reports, inspect machinery & mechanical equipment in operation, detect flaws and make repairs.
- Operate assigned truck and perform daily routine maintenance on same including check of fluids, fuel, tire pressure, etc.; assure proper tools and materials are available to perform tasks.
- Maintain accurate & reliable service records, keeping log of unfinished works to go back to perform.
- When needed, perform field maintenance tasks as part of crew in all types of weather. Read meters & maintain charts and records accurately. Perform routine meter reading when needed.
- Perform other duties as requested by Field Superintendent and Superintendent.
- Be aware of occupational hazards & safety hazards of the work.
Minimum Experience and Training:
- Possession of high school diploma or equivalent, experience in water system maintenance repair; preferably meter repair.
- Valid Michigan motor vehicle operator’s license with CDL.
