The laborer position involves executing a wide range of physical labor tasks and duties on our various Utility Locating construction sites. This includes daily retrieval of our Utility Locating heavy machinery from our Corona yard, transportation to the job site, and subsequent return to the Corona yard.
- Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
- Properly follows all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment
- Reports any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager
- Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and materials with shovel
- Follows direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite
- Assists SUE Lead Locator (Crew Chief) on underground utility location crew.
- Locate underground utilities using ground-penetrating radar and other locating device
- Assists in providing Maintenance of Traffic Control setup, as well as all related safety and other field tasks.
- Keep the vacuum excavation trucks and support vehicles stocked with the appropriate equipment, supplies, and tools, paints, flags, signs, asphalt, concrete, etc.
- May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer
- Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials
- Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies
- Maintains regular, predictable and consistent attendance at assigned times as required
- Other duties as assigned.
- Drives, operates, and helps maintain vacuum excavation vehicles to provide vertical location and disposition of underground utilities.
- Safely operate commercial heavy equipment used for Utility Locating services
- Adhere to all applicable traffic laws and regulations
- Comply with commercial vehicle driving rules and regulations
- Daily retrieval of Utility Locating heavy machinery from Corona yard, transportation to the job site and subsequent return of machinery to the Corona yard
- Safely load and unload equipment supplies and tools, asphalt, concrete, etc..
- Securing cargo and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle
- Ensuring any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving
- Performing daily maintenance of company vehicle and equipment (refueling, cleaning, oil changes, etc.)
- Performing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Reporting defects, accidents and violations
- Follow company policies and procedures related to safety, performance, and conduct
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years’ experience working in an outdoor construction environment, preferably with water or sewer utilities
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to listen and comprehend instructions accurately to learn products, processes, safety procedures, installation techniques and equipment use
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Designating/locating experience a plus, but not required.
- Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) and satisfy pre-employment motor vehicle hiring requirements
