The utility heavy Equipment Operator and excavator is semi-skilled in the construction, and repair of underground distribution systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Work new construction, maintenance, and repair of de-energized underground distribution systems based off receiving and following directions
  • Proficient operation of heavy equipment – Dump truck, backhoe, trenchers, and mini-excavators
  • Understand minimum approach distance, soil classifications, excavation, shoring and ladder requirements
  • Understand heavy equipment set up, procedures, underground services, and duct banks
  • Performs excavations of dirt, rock, concrete, and other materials using hand tools and power equipment

Qualifications:

Qualifications and Requirements:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, work orders, instructions, and procedures
  • Accurately perform basic math calculations to include addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, and the use of measurements
  • Proficiency in critical thinking, trouble shooting, and problem resolution
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and nonverbal)
  • Requires self-motivation, organization, and prioritization management
  • Proficient knowledge of OSHA standards and guidelines
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Technical degree, 2-4 years’ field experience, extensive mechanical ability, or a combination of education and/or experience
  • CDL A  (preferred) or the ability to obtain
  • OSHA Certifications

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb; lifts and carry up to 60 lbs, crawl, kneel, push and reach; use hands to fingers, handle, and feel.

Work Environment:
In performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
